NCRA Southern Sport Modified Travel to Amarillo This Saturday!

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEAASE – Park City, Kansas – June 5, 2011 - Series rookie Brandon Smith doesn't have far to travel this time around as the current point's leader for the Bob Howard P.D.C. and Mopar National Championship Racing Association of Park City, Kansas presented by Smiley's Racing Products southern sport modified division leads the tour into his hometown of Amarillo, Texas and the beautiful Route 66 Motor Speedway this coming Saturday night.

Smith, who also leads in the Triple B Oil Field Services rookie of the year point standings, will come into the night with a very slim five point advantage over inaugural champion Chad McNamara of Blackwell, Oklahoma. Defending series champion Todd Decker of Edmond, Oklahoma is just fifteen points out with fellow rookie contender Kinzer Edwards of South Coffeyville sitting fourth in the standings, twenty-five points out of the lead. Travis Johnson of Enid, who leads the three year old tour in victories with five, sits fifth in the point standings forty points out after four events.

The sixth through tenth positions in the point standings include Ross McCartney (Lahoma), rookies Devon Gerrior (Broken Arrow) and J.D. Choate (Ponca City), Landon Maddox (Fairview) and rookies Zachery Tippett (Newalla) and Bobby McGehee (Drummond).

Through the four events that have been completed thus far on the 2011 race season there have been four different feature winners. They include Smith, who took the season opener at 81 Speedway back in April, Randy Timms atop the famed half mile oval at Thunderbird Speedway in Muskogee, Johnson at the tours first ever appearance at Crawford County Speedway in Van Buren, Arkansas and the most recent winner, Robert Elliott at the Beaver County Raceway in Beaver, Oklahoma.

The tour has made one previous appearance at Route 66 Motor Speedway, this coming last year where hometown driver Kelly Cross best a field of thirty-two to claim the victory.

Route 66 Motor Speedway is located one and a half miles south of I-40 on Lakeside drive. Pit gates will open 5:00 PM with grandstand gates opening at 6:00 PM. Racing is scheduled for a 7:30 PM start time. For ticket information contact the track (806) 383-RACE.

What final gear are the SportMods running at Route 66? How does the track compare to Enid (in size, banking, and width)?

Thanks!

Am told gears are between 600-626, although Todd Decker ran a 629 and hit 7200 RPM's.

I am not a driver and haven't been on the track but I would say about the same amount of banking but more clay than Enid has. It really is a top notch facility and trust me when I say the grandstands will be packed. That is about the best I can do. I know there are some drivers who frequent here so hopefully they will give their imput as well.

By the way, as was the case last year, twenty-four cars will start the feature.

David, I had to respond to this...

the track and fans are unbelievable good and it has to have more clay than Enid cuz Enid is all red dirt!!! LOL just poking a bit of fun but its true.... Amarillo is where I would be heading if I wasnt on call this weekend and thats a fact!!! I have a few friends that drive this class and wish them all the best and safest trip this weekend.

I run a 610 there and turn 6500 to 7000 depending on the track.
