Ideal Ready Mix Sprint Invaders Open with Big Weekend Doubleheader!

(Bill W) May 23, 2011 – The Ideal Ready Mix Sprint Invaders will kick off their season this Friday night, May 27, at the CJ Speedway in Columbus Junction, Iowa, and on Sunday, May 29 at the Quincy Raceways in Quincy, Illinois. After rain and cold temperatures ruined their opener at 34 Raceway in West Burlington on April 16, the series is highly anticipating getting things going this weekend!

The series was excited to announce a raise in the purse entering the 2011 season. More has been added back through the field, and it is now $300 just to start a Sprint Invaders event. That has led to much interest from 360 drivers including Knoxville regulars and others across the Midwest.

If there is one constant in Sprint Invaders shows at CJ Speedway, it is the element of surprise winners. There has only been one repeat winner at CJ, and that was Jesse Giannetto, who won all three events there in 2005 in his march to a championship. In the nine other races contested, there have been nine different winners.

Last season, CJ Houseman broke through for a win in May, while 2009 Rookie of the Year, Ben Wagoner, was victorious in September. Jerrod Hull, Kerry Madsen, Bobby Hawks, Nick Eastin, John Schulz, Matt Rogerson and Joey Moughan have also found Victory Lane in Columbus Junction.

After taking a year off, racers and fans alike are looking forward to Sunday's return to the Quincy Raceways 3/8-mile oval. In 2009, two-time Sprint Invaders champ, Kaley Gharst, won a pair of races there. In one, he went over the turn three berm while leading, and came back to make the winning pass later in the race! Other winners at Quincy include Ricky Logan (2006) and Matt Sutton (2007).

At Columbus Junction Friday, grandstand gates open at 5:30 p.m., and hot laps are scheduled for 7:00 p.m. with racing to follow!

At Quincy on Sunday, pit gates open at 3:30 p.m. Grandstands will open at 4:30 p.m.; hot laps are scheduled for 5:45 p.m. with racing to follow. Look for our ads on KHQA TV in the Quincy/Hannibal areas leading up to this weekend!

Attention drivers: Temporary Sprint Invaders passes will be just $25 at Quincy.

We plan to be at the Brownstown MOWA race on Friday (if the weather cooperates). If it gets rained out, then we will try to make it to CJ if it is still on. But we do know for sure that we will be racing at Quincy. Hope to see everyone out there!
