Is it usually the sanctioning body, like WoO, All-Stars, IRA, etc. that checks the cars to make sure they are 410 cubic inch maximum displacement, or do the individual tracks handle that? Do they pump just the winner, or top 4, or random?

When I was the Tech man for a 360 group I pumped the top 3 & 1 at random. How chose the randon car would ask someone after the last car left to pick a number between 4 & 15. The car that finished in that position would be the random car. Caught a few illegal cars that way too, usually injection was too big. Only once did the engine pump big. Also pulled the hoods before races to check injection, 37 cars one night, I was one tired ol man that night. The guys still racing still talk to me & when they wave they use all 5 fingers, except 1 but I worked w/ him he don't count lol.

Maybe ASCS (National and regions) will see fit to adopt this kind of teching. Sounds like a reasonable, interesting means of keeping an eye on the inmates.

Teching is a problem in all series but particularly in the 360s. Even when someone does check they seldom catch any cheaters. The problem is it isn't usually the top guys that are cheating and they're the ones who end up winning most of the time. The guys cheating are the marginal ones and use the extra motor to help them in heat races when more motor is more of an advantage due to track conditions. When it slicks off later they usually back up. But their unfair advantage put them in the show and probably put a legal guy on the trailer. I'd like to see ASCS pick a couple of random cars and check them before racing starts. Just draw a couple of numbers after pill draw closes and check those guys real quick. That should help discourage it. It's only the top 3 or 5 that are at risk at the end of the night. Everyone would be at risk at the beginning. And I'd rather catch them before they knock a legal car out. You watch a guy load it back up before the night even begins and you won't be so anxious to run an illegal motor. A good tech program would be very much appreciated by most. Those that don't need to stay home anyway.

Before the feature race would make it dificult, you have to pull the intake & exhaust pushrods of the cylinder I CHOOSE, connect the pump up, push it & listen for blow by up the stacks or exhaust, then the engine has to be put back together. Wouldn't believe the racers that didn't know how to set their lash on the engine. I caught at least 1 illegal car every year & 1 year I caught 4, this was after the races. At 1 track I had 2 cars leave, also turned back several cars as they came up to time trial because they had the wrong tire on the RR. Rules are rules.

I forgot all of the details, but remember a story about teching with the Outlaws. One of the drivers became very vocal about illiegal cars (fuel) The next night, the Outlaws tech the top three for fuel and one randon driver. Just happened that the random driver was the one doing all of the complaining.

I would like to see someone answer the question that was originally asked, who techs the 410's? Ihave seen many 360 and 305's pumped. I have only seen the pump out @ one 410 All Star show. I have NEVER seen a pump at local shows (mainly Michigan and Ohio)

do it in the dirt

NST pumped cars when they hit attica and fremont. I can't remember which of the travelers that they tested but, I do remember that they also pumped Greg Wilson.

Does this mean that no one knows, or that they are not checked?

BadDad- I don't believe that you have ever actually caught anyone cheating. This being the case, and since it's over with, WHO was cheating? I'm not talking RR tires either. I know you won't say, mainly because you didn't catch anyone. If you DID, who was DQ'd? You won't have any names, and you have nothing better to do that sit here on message boards and talk about your glory days, and how great you were.
