Havn't been able to get there til thursday night and all the shops are usually closed friday, but the michael waltrip racing shop is pretty cool, it cost to go trough but if you go to his website there are usually discount coupons. Hendrick is basically behind the trees across from the dirt track, which is close by to at least see the shop. Don't know about KKR but the team will probably be there servicing the cars and all that so you may get in the trophy sections that over look the shop

Oh yeah btw, go to Childress and see the Dale Earnhardt museum. LOTS of cars and interactive stuff setup in Chilress's old race shop

Went to Hendrick and was disappointed. "Self Guided" tour included walking around a path that was roughly 25 yards from a garage door into the shop. That's all you could see. They wanted you to go to the museum and gift shop. It was okay, some cool displays, but I wanted to see the shop in action. NASCAR HoF is well organized and has some things you can touch and play with. Bit pricey to get in, but not a bad way to spend an afternoon.

Be sure to go on the Charlotte Motor Speedway track tour. They run pretty much all day long. There is a neat surprise at the end. Best $5 I spent on my last trip down there.

We went out a couple years ago for the 600 week. Booked a tour through these nice folks. Might be a little short notice now, but it's worth a try.
They do the driving, visited like 12 shops in one day. Had plenty of time to look around and visit gift shops at all of them. I'd have never found them all on my own in that amount of time.
GREAT FOLKS!
The RCR Shop/Earnhardt museum is definately worth the trip.
DEI - not so much
Hendrick shop is OK, but you look through the window at the shop, as you do at several others as well.
Penske & Gibbs were good tours.
Sadly, our favorite shop is no longer in existance, Bill Davis racing. They had 2 white lines painted throught the shop, all you had to do was stay between the lines. SUPER nice people there, when they found out we were Blaney fans, my son got to sit in one of Dave's brand new race-ready CAT cars. Let us take tons of pics. Cup and truck shop, we were right next to the workers, they were happy to answer all our questions. COOL deal.
