This photo was taken after a torrid battle between the 2 friends. Ronald Laney won this one, I believe, maybe his first win over John Bankston.
The loss of these 2 great racers within 6 months of each other from the Houston area was devastating to sprint car racing in that area... and really around the nation.
There are so many racers who could be listed here - but these are the most recent and closest for me.
No photos yet of Jesse Hockett?
I started to list names and decided not to. Too depressing - and yet they should all be remembered - you're right. There is a web site of fallen drivers.

I didn't like the photo of John in the previous post (good photo, however, taken by Ronald's Mom) but I do like this one from the lens of Cyndi Craft. It was a toss up of this one or a couple taken by Tim Aylwin. Thanks to both of them for their photos through the years. Also thanks to Don Hubbard for some neat photos of John working machinery trying to get the Devil's Bowl into shape for racing - instead of working on his own car.

The great Kevin Gobrecht and his AMOCO car. Think Johnny Herrera was driving the 1Burger King car when this was taken.
