I always enjoyed going around and talking briefly with the "unknown" drivers. They really appreciate people visiting with them. Even bought shirts from a few of them.
TSA...It's not a GROPE...it's a Freedom Pat!

No doubt. Day after the Nationals is the worst of the year. The only way it could be worse is if it snowed. Saw my first Nats the year Kinser came from row 7(?) to win it.
I have never heard a roar there then when Swindell's fuel bladder failed and Lasoski raced past him to win his first.
I love the neighbors who always treat us so well and allow us to park in their driveways, our neighbors in the stands who come from all over.
The popcorn chicken is absolutely the bomb, but the track pork tenderloins are good too.
It will be hard to suppress my yell when that first heat race gets the green flag on Wednesday night.

If memory serves me correctly, Steve started 14th. He hadn't moved up much at all, if any, and there was a yellow. It was when the cone was still on the backstretch. Coming thru 3 and 4 for the restart, everyone else dropped to the bottom and Steve went high, and you could tell he was fast. I nudged my buddy sitting next to me and said, "Here that son of a #!%$ comes!" Needless to say, I'm not a fan, but respect the hell out of what all he's done.
Yes, supper has to be done at the track at least 3 of the 4 nights. Chicken bites one night, tenderloin one night, and Pizza Hut one night.

The nachos with meat aren't a bad option for a fourth night. But I usually do two nights of chicken bites.
Is this heaven?
No, it's Iowa....Knoxville, Iowa.

Many of my favorites have already been mentioned and I agree heading home afterwords NO MATTER WHERE you are headed SUCKS! One of my favorite things was to go to your booth to chat with you and while chatting go through all the pictures so that I could turn all the Sammy Swindell ones upside down :-)

THE FOOD! Pork, Beef, Lamb, corn, you name it, it's all great.
The People! Set up a folding chair on the Rte 14 "boardwalk" and enjoy!
The Justice Bros. float, whatever happened to that?
Camping, . . . . done at a motel these days.
Talking Posse smack with the "fuzzy foto" guy.
Rooting against Sammy!

Going to my 30th Nationals this year and it will be my son's 4th. I have had different traditions throughout my life so I will show them in chronological order starting earliest. In the 80's: Camping with Grandma and Grandpa, riding my moped all over the fairgrounds, playing blackjack for 25cents with all the campers and taking my winnings and playing the arcade under the grandstands and some years in the tent. Specifically playing the racing game you had to "spin the wheel". Being in Doug Wolfgangs fan club . Go Wolfie.. In the 90's: Going into the races 1 hour late so we could drink a few beers, of course out of someone's cooler who was left out...Sorry if you were one of them..Partying in the Barns after the races, playing Butt Darts with a teacher you had cheering you on..Riding on the bus...Yeah..Harassing Karl Kinser all night long only for Karl to get the last life, year after year.. In the 00's: Convincing you wife its all right to go and spend a 1000 dollars, Eating Hy-vee breakfast at 4am, Borrowing the shopping carts for a few races in the parking lot, Taking my son to his first nationals, gaining about 10lbs this week.

This year should be great and 50th makes it extra special. I was just at the Sprint Car Hall of Fame today, they have 15 of the cars of Previous Knoxville Nationals Winners - great selection. This is probably the most cars you will ever see if you go through, it is well worth the money. Plus check out their website and the extra activities on the Second Floor. This year should be a stand out. Great Racing.
