Just heard something from a race team I sponsor @ TRP and wondered if you heard the same. Being half way around the globe is tough sometimes so I apologize if this has been discussed already.

Mark @ TRP said there will be making a "Major" announcement soon, track employees and several drivers close to "the know" have stated that TRP will tear up the asphalt and return to dirt. No time slot was given.

Also heard the USA property has been sold to FedEx and they'll allow the track to finish the year before making it a depot. (this one seems a bit out there)

Not sure if both tracks are collapsing into one and Benji will promote while Mark owns or what. Interesting to say the least if any of this is true but was wondering if you guys out in Cali have heard anything about this.

Rob,

Interesting. I live in Tucson and work close to the airport. I know that Fed Ex has a facility adjacent to the airport but perhaps it needs to be larger. I also know that houses are rapidly starting to encroach on the USA property even though it's adjacent to the landfill, the airport and the Raytheon facility as well as other noxious, undesireable sites including, but not limited to, a soil amendment facility.

Seeing TRP return to it's roots would be nice to see. I grew up at "Corona Speedway" and while I only raced asphalt, first in Wisconsin and then TRP when they paved it.... that place hasn't been the same since NASCAR turned their back on it. I guess everyone will know for sure when the rippers show up.

There is no truth to the rumor that USA Raceway is sold, the track is and will continue to operate.

I've only been to one event at USA back in '05. Very nice facility. I still find it difficult to believe that anyone would build homes that close to the airport. Even more difficult to believe anyone would buy a home that close to an airport. Sure, maybe the land is relatively inexpensive but it's not like there is a shortage of inexpensive, undeveloped land in that general vicinity. It's really irritating to think that USA might one day close due to pressure from encroaching residential development. As a race fan I might be interested in buying a home next door to a race track but next to an airport? If I were a pilot perhaps but otherwise no way.

You forgot to mention the ambiance of the Los Reales landfill which is the track's closest "neighbor." Also the soil amendment operation about a mile south. I can remember several years ago when one of the compost piles there caught on fire and smoked for at least a couple of weeks. Great neighborhood no matter how cheap the land may have been!
