Scott Winters (18th car out) set the standard with a lap of 10.943 seconds around bullring. Chad Meyer (3rd car out) was a close 2nd quick with a time of 10.970. Heat 1 Notes: Wasmund grabbed the lead while Winters was fighting his way forward past Bakker and Cressman. Peters would follow Winters a lap later and find him in the important fourth position. Things got single file a bit, until Winters grabbed the 3rd spot with 3 laps to go. The win was Wasmund's first heat win of the year.

Heat 3 Notes: Kerzman elected for a rear start moving up the inside row up a row. Wolfgang took the early lead and led throughout while McCarl stopped on the third lap with possible gear issues it looked like and he did not restart. Graham also stopped a few laps later which led to Jeffrey being all over Ossenfoort the last few laps, but coming up short for the 2nd spot.

Heat Grades: C; Pretty boring heats as they were pretty single file, but the track was starting to widen out and still had moisture in it.

A Feature Notes: T. Meyer had the early lead as he led the first laps of his 410 career. On lap 4 Rosenboom snatched the lead off the bottom of turn two but T. Meyer took it right back in three and four as Bakker was on the move from the back. The caution flew for the first time on lap seven for C. Meyer as he spun in turn two but he kept going but was still sent to the back.

The restart had T. Meyer ahead of Rosenboom, Jeffrey, Ossenfoort, and Dobmeier and then all hell broke loose. Simultaneous wrecks happened on the backstretch as Rosenboom took the lead off the bottom of two and made contact with T. Meyer at the end of the backstretch. As that happened Eckard spun in turn one and C. Meyer had nowhere to go but into the back of him, spilling fuel all over the track resulting in a red. Mack took out Winters as they tried to avoid the wreck, but somehow neither got turned over and both would get their spots back on the next restart.

After a 15 minute break to burn off the fuel on the track, racing would resume with Rosenboom in the lead. Jeffrey was able to hang with him in traffic and looked like he would take the lead until Ranten spun in turn one at the halfway point. The restart had Rosenboom still on the point with Jeffrey, Dobmeier, and Bakker behind him this go around. With no cone this year, Winters went under two cars as the green flag flew to move up to 5th. Then with 11 laps to go, Dobmeier went for a major slider in turn three for the lead but ended up taking himself out as he spun up the track and into wall lightly.

After that restart we stayed green the rest of the way with Bakker and Jeffrey going at it hard for the 2nd spot but Jeffrey took that and had a chance to grab a last lap lead from Jody but hit both berms in the turns and would settle for 2nd behind Rosenboom as he picked up his first career 410 win at the track and it was worth $2,500.

A Feature Grade: B; A racy track finally but every time the race got interesting in traffic a yellow would fly unfortunately, but at least the track had some moisture to it.

360s (12 Cars)
Joe Riedel had the pole and would take the initial lead and took off like a rocket. Brock Dump spun at the top of turn four a lap in and would not make it back out. On lap four, Cody Hansen took the 2nd position but was still way behind Riedel's rapid pace. Justin Glaser spun on lap eight in turn three and had Rayce Martin drill him trying to get by him, but both would somehow restart. Eric Lutz was on the move with about five to go but it was all Joe Riedel as he picked up his first career win at the track.

Crowd Pleasing Moment #1: Hot Rod's interview with Riedel after his win was really, really good (as usual). Riedel has been deployed twice to Iraq and it was great to see him win on Memorial Day Weekend. Thanks goes out to him and every one of our past and present troops for everything they do to guarantee our freedom.

Crowd Pleasing Moment #2: Winters provided some excitement due to the no cone this year as he timed the starts perfectly to move up a few spots before getting to the flagstand. The Report absolutely loves the no cone rule and loved yet another shout out during intermission. Hell the Blog that gets updated about once a week even got a shout out. I guess

WTF: Goes to the simultaneous wrecks on the backstretch and in turn one. It sounds like Chad Meyer junked a 2nd frame for the 2nd straight night after having a Goodyear tire blow at Huron resulting in junking a car. Gotta love these Goodyear tires…

"Home of the Professionals" Moment of the Night: Starting over 20 minutes late, and having the usually long Grader Break this week made the races last until 10:45. Shocking that this always happens on the nights on holidays.

Mulligan Moment: The accident that happened between T. Meyer and Rosenboom looked like a racing deal but it would have been great to see those two fight it out as they were both looking for their first career 410 wins at the track.

Head Scratcher: We go from struggling at 15 cars to getting 25 tonight. Hopefully a few of these guys stick around for Monday night as we could get another 3 heat race night!

Thumbs Up: Robby Wolfgang was giving out Jesse Hockett memorial stickers and had a free will donation that would be going straight to the family. Awesome thing done, and it would be great to hear how much they raised throughout the weekend for the family. Also, to the other two guys (Hurricanefan was one) who rocked their Hockett shirts in his honor like your very own reporter did.

Thumbs Down: The late night at the track took into our time at 212, but oh well. Thanks for whoever paid my tab up there, as I owe you a few drinks, so please let me know who did it! But the real thumbs down goes to SD law that won't allow the sell of alcohol on Memorial Day! Couldn't get any shots or your favorite mixed drink come the turn of midnight which was pretty much when we got there. This law needs to get fixed ASAP.

Prime Mover: Bakker was on the move coming from 13th to finish in the 3rd spot to pick up Hard Charger honors.

Closing Stat of the Night: Lynton Jeffrey grabbed the point lead and holds a 5 point lead over Winters going into tonight's action.

Final Thought: Back to the track tonight and hopefully we get another decent track with moisture on it. Then DudeFan and myself are off to Knoxville for the 3 day show to meet up with Big Gay E and whoever shows up for the Mini-Nationals. Look out Knoxville, coming in hot!

Casey Mack (Nephew of the great HOFer Don Mack, recently bought one of Steve Kinser's 2009 cars (with freshened motor). Don't know if he had that one at Husets. Mack has been coming on very very strong at River Cities Speedway in Grand Forks, on Dobmeier's butt all year. Dobmeier lost two consecutive Friday nights in Grand Forks this year, and honest losses, not coming from back or crash damage, but real losses. Its good for River Cities Speedway. One week it was Bobby Martin having a heck of a race-long battle w/Mark, and other winner was Wade Nygaard. Has never happened since I started going up there 5 years ago.

Racing at River Cities has been A+ every Friday night. Picked up some late models and midwest mods from Fargo, who is now racing on Wednesdays and had a huge crowd last Wednesday night. Looks like the Wednesday night deal will be a big winner. Danny Schatz will be owed a big thank you in few weeks when we can say, yes, it worked and this guy worked a miracle. Fargo racing was near dead. People from Fargo didn't normally see close racing action on the big half in stock cars. 119 cars in pits, but only 20 were late models but both fast modified classes put on a great show. On downside, Fergus Falls tore up their asphalt for this year, not sure if Fargo not racing on Fridays had anything to do with it, but Fergus Falls picked up late models and mods that I was hoping would end up in Grand Forks, but Forks did get a few of them. If anyone reads this long post, do you know why Fergus Falls went to dirt? I'd guess Fargo not racing on dirt on Fridays had something to do with it, but maybe not. Sauk Centre is still asphalt, or not?

Sorry Murphy, you have the wrong guys. The only standing during the features was to watch the methanol burn in 1-2.

Yes, Casey has done a great job this year. He has steadily been improving over the past few seasons and it's been awesome watching his progression. But let's be a little more informative here. The 2 weeks in a row that Dobmeier didn't win were weeks in which the track was shit - especially the 2nd week (considering we never went more than a few laps without a caution cause everyone was spinning out). It was dry/slick conditions and nothing more than follow the leader. It was impressive enough for him to move up the way he did. On the other hand, this past Friday the track conditions allowed for 2 grooves - and guess what happened. Dobmeier dominated.

So those couple weeks wasn't as much Dobmeier being beat 'honestly', as it was the track conditions dictating where you were able to finish - depending on your starting position (Dobs started 9th and 8th, respectively, on those nights you speak of).

"Home of the Professionals" Moment of the Night: Starting over 20 minutes late, and having the usually long Grader Break this week made the races last until 10:45. Shocking that this always happens on the nights on holidays.

Mulligan Moment: The accident that happened between T. Meyer and Rosenboom looked like a racing deal but it would have been great to see those two fight it out as they were both looking for their first career 410 wins at the track.

Head Scratcher: We go from struggling at 15 cars to getting 25 tonight. Hopefully a few of these guys stick around for Monday night as we could get another 3 heat race night!

Thumbs Up: Robby Wolfgang was giving out Jesse Hockett memorial stickers and had a free will donation that would be going straight to the family. Awesome thing done, and it would be great to hear how much they raised throughout the weekend for the family. Also, to the other two guys (Hurricanefan was one) who rocked their Hockett shirts in his honor like your very own reporter did.

Thumbs Down: The late night at the track took into our time at 212, but oh well. Thanks for whoever paid my tab up there, as I owe you a few drinks, so please let me know who did it! But the real thumbs down goes to SD law that won't allow the sell of alcohol on Memorial Day! Couldn't get any shots or your favorite mixed drink come the turn of midnight which was pretty much when we got there. This law needs to get fixed ASAP.

Prime Mover: Bakker was on the move coming from 13th to finish in the 3rd spot to pick up Hard Charger honors.

Hard to hold back a few tears with that song and that video. I never got to meet Jesse but it was obvious he was one of a kind on and off the track. I loved reading the stories about Jesse that have been posted on here in the past week. RIP Jesse.

Closing Stat of the Night: Lynton Jeffrey grabbed the point lead and holds a 5 point lead over Winters going into tonight's action.

Final Thought: Back to the track tonight and hopefully we get another decent track with moisture on it. Then DudeFan and myself are off to Knoxville for the 3 day show to meet up with Big Gay E and whoever shows up for the Mini-Nationals. Look out Knoxville, coming in hot!

Yes, Mark Dobmeier is the man at River Cities. Those two consecutive losses will probably never happen again in the next 10 years, that is during their regular Fri show. But, I do recall Bobby Martin and Mark having a heck of a battle for about ten laps, Mark even passing the 5 car in the last corner of the last lap, sort of a slide job, only to have the 5 squeak by on the inside to get 2nd place from him. What I'm saying is it is good to see cars running with him and not having him go from 10th to 1st in 2 or 3 laps and almost lap the field. Those days are gone. Maybe others have better equipment than in past, but I think the drivers are getting better, more aggressive. My brother once asked me, "why does Nygaard pussy-foot around when trying to get around cars" and I told him, depends on whose checkbook is paying for the damages. All in all, all classes have been putting on great shows, but those excessive cautions. . . .

Agreed. I think Mark has 'raised the bar,' so to speak at RCS. The other drivers have definitely become more competitive against him and are racing him harder - with a smaller budget on top of it all. So it's fun to see them push the limit that much more. It also starts to show at other tracks they compete at as well. Like Casey Mack having a pretty good run at Huset's this past Sunday (6th).
