Does anyone have the complete 2010 Calistoga Speedway schedule? I see from other touring groups schedules that the GSC, CW and Usac sprints & midgets are back.

I hope Calistoga returns to its former glory. We don't have any more large tracks out here in Cali...

That being said, last years GSC and Civil War races were nothing to be proud of. They really need someone that understand track prep in order to have a good racing surface to put on a show.

What do you mean? You don't like front row winners each night ...... with the race being over after the 1st turn of the 1st lap?

thats winged 1/2 mile racing, take the wings off on any 1/2 mile track and the story dramatically changes

Bingo. I just needed somebody else to say it first because everybody knows I'm a nutcase. If any of you doesn't think that serious effort is put into preparing that track every time there is a race there (with one notable exception the season before last) all it shows is how little you knew before you started pecking away and pressed "post reply". Additionally: If any of you have an expert opinion on how to prepare the black dirt (yes dirt - not clay) that Calistoga Speedway is made of for a winged sprint show I can assure you that Charlie and Augie would LOVE to hear from you. I can put you in touch with them if you'd like and they'd probably let you crawl up in the grader or water truck with them if either one of them thinks it will make a difference. The last two years have proven that there are still racing people in Calistoga and few are more passionate about what happens at that race track than the people you see working their butts off to prepare it for a race.

I agree. Augie and Charlie do their best with what they have. In my humble opinion, the track needs new dirt and the $$$$$ just aren't there to do it. There are so many rocks and debris from years of racing that need to go.

Are we having fun yet?

Mike Andreatta told the teams at a NARC Calistoga pit meeting in the early '90's that new dirt was coming to Calistoga.

I guess that the dirt is coming from very far away and is in very small trucks......

I had given up on Calistoga until they started running the wingless shows there again a couple of years ago. I still won't waste my time with a winged show there though. I'd rather go to Placerville, Watsonville, or Tulare for my winger fix.

The track seemed to be in good shape for the two-day non-wing show.

I think the key there is "non-wing." For race fans that place is awesome for a non-wing show even in it's current condition!

Well in my opinion Calistoga is one of the best tracks in California, the track is what the drivers make it, if you have 17 cars running the bottom and 3 running the top you'll have one grove follow the leader on the bottom, not saying we don't have good drivers here but they have jobs and family and it's safer to run the bottom,( you must respect Calistoga ) the track surface at stoga makes for better racing when it's slick as far that I'm concerned every track makes better racing when it's slick. ( thats why I'm a mechanic not a driver I can say what your suppose to do )

just my opinion Richard Brown

Stoga is an awsome place.... New dirt though, how about just some WET dirt.... One of the best races was that night Jimmy Sills had that 14 car sailing around the top trading first with Randy Tiner until the two got together on the back straight..... Stoga produces good racing when prepaired right....

Man, I remember that night! Must've been about '97? I remember Jimmy going in to a series of tornado spins after the contact with Randy while exiting two, and taking out some of the then wooden backstretch wall. Scary wreck............

AMA pro flat track grand national series will run calistoga on jully 31 for the first time AMA Pro Racing
12/14/2009

AMA Pro Racing announced today the 2010 AMA Pro Flat Track Grand National Championship schedule that features an increased number of races plus new and former events back on the schedule.

The 2010 schedule features 19 dates in 13 markets across the country with a mixture of Short Track, TT, Half-Mile and Mile dirt tracks.

Once again the AMA Pro Flat Track Grand National Championship will consist of three series; Expert Singles, Expert Twins and the highly successful Pro Singles.

The season will open during Daytona Bike Week at the new DAYTONA® Flat Track with a TT on Wednesday, March 3rd. Thursday, March 4th will see the first Expert Singles and Pro Singles National on the Short Track configuration.

Next on the schedule will be the first Expert Twins National at a new venue with a Mile at Yavapai Downs in Prescott Valley, AZ, located just north of Phoenix. This will be the first motorcycle race at Yavapai Downs and the only track in the western part of the country to feature Mile Nationals. The series will return to Yavapai Downs in October with back-to-back Nationals.

Inaugural events will be held at Gas City I-69 Speedway in Gas City, IN; The Red Mile in Lexington, KY; Calistoga Speedway in Calistoga, CA; Canterbury Park in Minneapolis, MN and after a long hiatus, the return of I-96 Speedway in Lake Odessa, MI.

Annual events will continue at the Springfield Fairgrounds in Springfield, IL; Allen County Fairgrounds in Lima, OH; Hagerstown Speedway in Hagerstown, MD; Beulah Park in Grove City, OH; Peoria Race Park in Peoria, IL and the Indiana State Fairgrounds in Indianapolis, IN.

"The expansion of the series is exciting news for our fans, riders and sponsors," said Mike Kidd, Director of AMA Pro Flat Track. "We continue to work hard to showcase one of the most exciting forms of motorcycle racing in various parts of the country. Our goal is to continue to work with our existing promoters while going out to find aggressive promoters near key markets that will benefit the series."

AMA Pro Racing will continue to look for additional events to help complete a travel pattern as the series moves across the country.

The wreck between Tiner and Sills is one of the ugliest that I have ever seen. Right up there with Steve Couelo(sp) (at Calistoga and at San Jose). I believe that the outlaws call that kind of wreck a "helicopter dance".

On the subject of good races a Calistoga. I think during the 90s there were quite a few good races. Ronnie Day, Paul and Bobby McMahon, Steve Kent and Jimmy Sills provided many thrills. Who can forget Randy Tiner changing tires with four laps to go and coming back to win the race? It was like wrestling that night. Randy went from heel to hero in a matter laps.

I haven't had opportunity to attend a race at Calistoga in some time. So I don't think I can comment on the past six years. I know that the track has the potential to provide exciting racing it is probably simply a matter of economics that keeps the promoter from being able to provide that for the fans. It isn't like the city of Calistoga has been behind the track past several decades.

If I ever win the lottery I'll make sure to buy new dirt for Calistoga.

Kerry

Are you talkin' about when Steve Coelho literally "polevaulted " over the turn one bill/back boards? That was unbelievable! They had to be about 25 feet tall. One of the wildest rides i've seen...........
