I've seen them both race for a long time now, and I would still have to give the edge to the KING!!!!

Too much exaggeration about beating the best drivers out there 15 or 20 years ago. 5 or 10 years ago, yes, but not 15 and 20. Back then, drivers had hugely unequal equipment. Past 5 or 10 years, everyone has had same equipment. JMO

In a 410 sprint car the king was the best , is the best, and always will be the best, but in a midget sammy hands down. I would love to see sammy do one more full year of the outlaws and race head to head every night with the king.
Dirt is for racing, asphalt is for the parking lot.

You can argue either way I suppose. I'm not saying Sammy or Steve is better, but if Sammy ran every outlaw race, or the same schedule, or whatever......could it be possible that Steve may have never became "The King". These guys, along with Wolfie, are the best of the best. That is what makes this a debate. Good thread. There are always the "what if's".

If you put Doug Wolfgang in this question then I would go with him. Back when it was the Big 3 Doug won more races but, Steve got the name "King" for winning the biggest races. ( If I'm remembering that Correctly)
But since it's between Steve and Sammy I would have to go with Steve just by his production alone. I'm not a big fan of either, I don't mind cheering for either one of them now I kinda like pulling for the old boys once in awhile, but they are both a lot of fun to watch on the track and nice to talk to in the pits when it's all said and done.

As for driving talent that is steve. Sammy has been winning the chilli bowl designing, building, midget to win the chilli bowl. In the mech area sammy is hand down the winner. Neither one did anything outside of sprint car racing or open wheel as a whole which maybe saying something all to gather different.

Who would you say is the better driver today in equal equipment. And before we answer remember I am not talking about years past.I would have to say Sammy evan though that's hard to say being a huge Kinser fan.
|
This is so similar to someone bellowing across a room full
at the local water hole;
Bourbon or Scotch? Whatta you say is the better drink in
equal glasses. And before we answer remember I am not talking about micro-batches
or special blendings. Arguments without answers.Good entertainment, nonetheless.
Now, which of the two drivers would I prefer to tutor my 16
yr old son in the art of driving sprint cars for a full racing season? I'm
going to pick the indisputable, best choice, S _ _ _ _

With a wing, Steve, in versatility, Sammy.
|
I'll buy that Rogue. It's really too bad we don't get to see Steve run some different shows (non-wing). He was a killer in his day with the roof off also. Steve and Sammy in a non-wing show would pack any grandstand in the country. Winner? Who'd care, I'd just like to be in the stands!

When Steve ran without a wing he still won Western Worlds and Pacific coast opens at Ascot and Champ dirt car races with USAC. Steve has handed Sammy his a$$ and knocked him on his a$$ in every way shape and form in the last 30 + years. Everybody said he couldnt do it without Karl and guess what.

I think the original post was asking about the present not the past. If that is the case then it is Sammy over the last year.

IMO the most amazing record that Kinser has is he has started in every saturday night A main at the Knoxville Nationals since 1979. He also leads in the most laps led 302 to Sambo`s 31.

Kinser 552 wins.....Swindell 268. Looks like your boy has about 168 just to catch Sammy.

Though the numbers might sway most folks, but the don't tell the whole story. Kinser has more wins that Opperman, Foyt and Andretti too....

If were talking about "Today" you have to remember Steve has been racing injured from his neck. I give it to Kinser 100%
