It seems as if the city is opening bids for replacment of the electrical of the grandstands. We were all along told that they were going to remove the electrical. There were even plans drawn up for this. I do not know if this is BS or if it is true. You never know about politcians esp the ones in Okc.

Do not stop though keep those emails and phone calls going to the council people.

I heard the bids had to be in by Jan 15 so they could hurry up and get it done. My question is, if they remove the bad electrical, then the safety issue would be resolved. I know it would cost money but why couldn't Lanny then use generators like at the bowl??

Someone asked Lanny about the generators and he said that there is to much of a power requirment to do it.

Please ask Lanny what size generator it would take.

Are you sure the bids aren't for the removal of electrical lines prior to the demolition of the Grandstands???????????

That would mase sense if they are going forward with its removal.

Regarding the rumour you heard about the bid for replacing the electrical at the Fairgrounds it is true and public knowledge. The pre-bid is Jan. 6th at 10 am at the Fairgrounds and you have to have your bid in by Jan. 12th, 2010. And it is for replacement of electrical.

So my burning question is why does Mayor Cornett say the fate of the Fairgrounds is sealed, but yet they have a job opening to replace the problem. So if you do the math, to have plans already out to start the job this had to have been in the works for quite some time now and not just last month when it hit the news channels. My question is just how long have they known they were not going to allow racing in 2010? It would have been nice if they would have shared that little bit of info.

The job number is MB-0987 and anyone can pick up a copy of the plans. You can pick them up downtown and there is a $25.00 deposit which you will get back if you return the plans.

Just a little FYI.

If this is true, then someone needs to let the media know so that they can broadcast this. If the reason for shuttin down the Speedway is for the electrical reason but yet they are plannin on fixin it and have bids to fix it, someone needs to ask the higher ups on camera why this is happening. Let the radio stations know too. Just a thought.

It sounds like the 400K figure may have been someones budgetary estimate and now they are going out for bid to come up with an actual figure. It would be interesting to review the bid-pack documents and the actual scope of work required. There should be someone in the racing community that is an electrician or general contractor or works as a construction manager that is familiar with the bidding process and estimating.

My gut feeling, based on the unprofessional way the city has handled this issue all along is that there is a number of requirements in the documents that are there only to drive up the cost to satisfy the city's end results which is to substantiate that the cost is much greater than the return on the money. They ran into a ton of resistance with the estimate and now they will try to prove their case with a firm bid.

I don't have a dog in this hunt, other than being a former driver and fan. I live in the Tulsa area and seldom attended races at SFS. I have kept up with this issue through this forum and recognise just how unfair the city has been. If there is no one in the local area that steps forward to review the bid-package, I volunteer. I am a retired Construction Manager and very familiar with the bidding process and documents. If someone will send them to me, I will be glad to look them over, or I will be at the Chilibowl and could assist at that time. I don't know if Shane Carson is involved in any of this but he is an old friend and could be a good go between contact. Let me know if I can help.

I have been keeping the paper in the loop. I send eveerything I find out to Scott Munn so he can figure out want he wants to run with.

I can tell you the City knew about electtrical problems on June 22 of this year. I have a report that someone that visits this board got. IT was one of those he knows she knows they know how to get it thing. The report was presented to the council on that date. The report has been sent to the paper as well.

There is an obvious trail of things like this behind these 'pollertishuns',

Now- Who still believes the ADA suit had nothing to do with Shutting down the speedway? They KNEW there would be a fight, that is why they played it low key and got things ready for when it hit.

Paper is good, but we could get more exposure with TV and Radio. I know we can get people to call the radio show and TV and get this news out. Also, i heard that there are elevators already in the grandstands. So if this is true, that would get the ADA out of the way because they would have no case.

The biggest issue with the ADA right now is the angle of the ramps of the grandstands. I have gone over the ADA problems in one of the reports that I have.

Yes there are elevators in the grandstands. One is in the old office of the fairboard. They would have to be reparied to make them work again.

There is a belief by some people downtown that the city news stations are scared of Cornett. He is still on payroll of one of the big adverstising firms and they do not want to loose out on that advertising money if they make him look bad. We do have pro track people on the radio. Sean Ellliott(sp) he is on KKNG.

I forgot who posted the link a couple weeks ago but Mark Shannon (don't care for him but still) just totally ripped Cornett to shreads. It was a good listen.

Does anyone have the ADA report or the results of the lawsuit that keeps coming up? Is it for real or not? Building a couple of ramps is not that expensive and providing an area for the handicapped isn't either. The biggest cost is in the retrofit of the bathrooms to bring them up to compliance. In most cases this requires a door opening system and a larger stall in each restroom with rails and a lowered urinal in the mens room. Yes, some expense but not enough to break the bank. If the ADA was enforced, across the board at every old racing facility, most wouldn't be in compliance. And another thought is, at outdoor special events, porta-johns are now offered that comply with ADA. Does once a week 25 weeks a year qualify as special events? I'm not trying to piss of any handicapped people, just a suggestion to keep SFS open until updates can be made.

I think the ADA issue should be challenged just as vigorously as the electrical issue and that SFS should be saved not just for next year but beyond. If, through the efforts of everyone involved with this, (The racing community versus the city) enough improprieties can be established against the city and council and fair board, perhaps not just the racing community but the residense in general will rally behind this effort.

"I finally got tired of people discriminating against me and others like me, so I finally did something about it," Lawson said.

That something was filing 26 federal lawsuits in Oklahoma City against businesses and other organizations Lawson claims refuse to comply with the federal Americans with Disabilities Act, which requires that facilities are accessible to people with disabilities.

Lawson's latest target is Oklahoma City, where he has sued officials for not meeting the needs of people with disabilities at state Fair Park.
