its just to bad imca cars will leave the imca to race umss! i dont understand how umss can pay so much more then the imca tracks!! i know a few who will go where the money is!! imca just needs to wake up and pay the same!i think its only 400 to win! thats the same as the stock cars get!HMM wonder who brings the the most fans?you can see after the sprint race over half of the stand leave!! its about time the sprints can race for some money!!i think the umss is 700 to win almost 2x what imca pays for about the same car !!!

If the racers are stupid enough to race for $400.00 than why would a promoter raise his purse??? I've said this forever. If you depend on the purse to finance your your race car you need to find another hobby. The UMSS should have no influence on the cars at Jackson. Still no word from Joe on if he will unretire to run the new series. And how about it Chuck, the old # 80 Justice Brothers car coming out of the shed?
|
Ya you could call us "stupid", but it's all in perspective...I don't have the money invested in equipment, haulers and engines that the Jackson and ASCS guys have(but not complaining)...bottom line, I don't have it to spend. I race within my means...and have fun. I don't travel the miles that some of these teams do to race, which also saves on expense. Anyway, IMCA is a solid foundation for us that choose to race it and is growing in size each year. Best of luck to all in the 09 racing season!

$700 to win is the same as racing for $400 to win. It's hobby money. If you don't want to race for this kind of money ...then don't. I really don't think anyone that races for the UMSS or IMCA is thinking they will make money. The only real problem with racing for this kind of money is ALL classes that do this sell themselves short . Track owners do it because it makes them money. Fans WANT to see sprint cars. IF a track owner can bring these cars to his track for a extremely discounted price, He's gonna do it. Thats why the ASCS is out at Brainerd. You will never see the ASCS at any track that the UMSS , IMCA, or JSTS is signed with. Remember that Emmit's dream of bringing high quality talent to 360 racing......? Well as far as bringing , good talent , and a decent payoff to the upper midwest, these organizations kill that dream. Don't blame the track owners! The track owners know, that sprint cars at their tracks will fill the stands. Always have! If they can buy that at a bargain basement price ....they will. So don't complain about the lack of payout. Just say "NO" ...Stay home , or travel to far away places where talent , decent payouts, and great racing exsist.

Gentlemen
Why does a discussion about who's running a series have to turn into a squabble over someones attempt to improve things?
It is unfortunate that everyone was not able to see the pay layout and what it costs a track to hold sprint cars. The tracks are not cheeping out!! They are trying to turn just a little profit so they can justify having the sprint cars back. It is that black and white. Cedar Lake hosted the ASCS one time and LOST money! I am sorry guys but the fact is what it costs to have sprints currently far out ways the number of fans that come to watch just sprint cars. Along with that having been at the ASCS shows there were no extra cars over what local cars were there that ran with the Wissota group and will run with the UMSS. Maybe 1 or 2 cars. Again though the $$ doesn't justify having that one extra car.
The cost difference for a track to host these groups is substantially different! A little perspective would be if you were putting on an event and could make $1000 or lose $4000 what would you choose?

I think down the road , you will see , you get what you pay for. I for one would rather watch higher funded teams race rather than lower funded teams, I would drive farther to watch these types of shows.jmo

Trigger,
Did you attend the ASCS shows last year at Brainerd? When you refer to highly funded teams do you mean Outlaw level or what level are you referencing? I ask b/c first impressions are that all the cars that ran the ASCS show last year will most likely run the UMSS show this year, so are you saying you do not like any of the local shows no matter what they're branded?

all i said is the sprints should get more money then the stock cars!!!!! if there were just stock cars there.there would be alot less people in the stands!!!the sprints bring the people to the stands and they should get paid a little better!!! thats all

Mr. Kouba,
You surely have some good points about the ASCS. However, this is not about Minnesota, or you, or me, I am not ashamed about my opinions of local Twin Cities racing. Mr. Kouba you are obviously a little sensitive about your talent level. You shouldn't be. I have seen you race. I've seen your family members race. I've seen your close friends race. I have been involved in racing for over 25yrs. I've raced with the best in the business. I've raced with the bottom talent level in this business. My comments are not meant to be an attack on you personally. The ASCS attempted to have a solid bridge from local "northern plains" racing teams to a higher level. It took more than three years to switch teams from "open headed" motors to ASCS motors. While the rules of your new series, that you are obviously invested in, has addressed this issue. You have failed to create a bridge for the young talented drivers that may come to fruition from the "Twin Cities",to a bigger, better stage. That is what i meant by calling this "hobby" racing. Your mission so stated is to bring fan friendly sprint car racing to the "Twin Cities". No doubt you will do that. However you will make it harder for young talent to move forward. Just my opinion. I have a pair.

Futhermore, Mr Kouba I will be traveling to bigger, better, races with the most talent i can find to race against. This ,Mr.Kouba is not meant as a disrepectful comment against you or the UMSS.It's just a fact. I fully support your local "Twin Cities" venture. Everyone needs a hobby. See you at the races.

Hmmm. Kind of an odd statement. Higher funded teams does not always equal better drivers or better racing. I still think most of you are missing something and for the life of me I can't figure out why this is so complicated. You're still going to see drivers like Richert, Kouba, Barrickman, and Lund. Maybe Grosz, Lutz, Winters, Nygaard, and Norem. If memory serves me correctly all of these guys have run with the higher funded series in the past. For that matter, most of them have run up front in the higher funded series.
They may be paying less and labeling it as an affordable sprint car series, but the competition level will be as good if not better than Jackson's weekly program. JMO!
