Nobody is ever going to equal Kinsers win total even though there may be some talented drivers coming along in the future. Steve Kinser came along at the perfect time to achieve those wins and championships. He was always in top notch equipment, started at a young age, has the longevity and was never seriously injured. It's not just the talent but a lot of factors went into play to make him what he is today. Back in 78', 79' there were only a handful of touring drivers. You really just can't compare it to anything we see today.

IMO, Steve had to race a LOT tougher crowd to get those numbers. Sammy, Wolfie, Ferkel, May, Shuman, Hewitt, Allen...Shall I go on???

First off Congrats to Madsen. Long time coming for this Aussie hammer.
Supaschatz continues to amaze the masses everytime he opens his mouth or touches his keyboard.

Ok, maybe "normal" was a poor choice of a word. Maybe I should have said average. 50 and 60 car fields are not the norm for any 410 sanction when the season gets going which makes it easier on every fulltime team involved.
|
But the point of that post was about "the greatest driver to ever sit in a sprint car", no? Not about every other team involved. Why would a 20 time champion, who has over 500 A feature wins, care if the field was "normal" or "average"? Never before have I witnessed a WoO season where 20-25+ travelers will be the potential norm. Afterall, I don't recall anyone stating that Saldana, Lasoski, Meyers, etc haven't won in FL because of there being less-than normal fields. The depth of the field at the Nationals, the Grove, Gold Cup, and so on, are anything but normal or average, but Steve has countless wins in those events.
I am, in no way, justifying the poster who made this a Donny vs. Steve pissing match. My point being that a 20 time champion, who has over 500 A feature wins, shouldn't need a message board jockey making excuses for him. Steve will do just fine this year, and if he or Donny win the championship, I won't have an opinion either way, other than that they are BOTH great sprint car drivers. No excuses, no apologies.

And that is why I said it affects every team out there. No excuses, just fact, when there are so many good teams, especially at the start of the season, it is easier for anyone to get behind the 8 ball. That will become more apparent as the teams that will not run the full WoO season stop showing up and then you will see guys like Meyers rocket up in the standings out of his current 28th place.
