Forsberg Wins Wild Finish at Chico

(Chico, CA 6-13-08)...It was a Friday night showdown at Silver Dollar Speedway during the 25-lap sprint car main event. It came down to two drivers going for the same piece of real estate. Coming out of turn four there was Andy Forsberg, the leader, and Tim Kaeding, charging around the top of the race track in second. Neither wanted to lose. As the two came out of turn four, Kaeding had caught Forsberg and the wheels were banging and sparks were a flying.

Forsberg crossed the line first while Kaeding finished second. Kaeding ended up smacking the front grandstand wall and in the process his top wing was tore off. As Kaeding crossed the line he spun backwards into the infield. The crowd loved the hard racing and the desire that each of these former champions displayed on Chico's famous racing surface. After the checkered Kaeding had kept his car running and began to drive backwards on the front straight. He was looking for Forsberg. In turn four they found each other and contact ensued. Both cars were wrecked and Kaeding climbed from his car to confront Forsberg. By the time any more damage could be done people had separated the two and cooler heads prevailed. It put a damper on what was an amazing finish.

Results were not released immediately once the main was finished so the officials could meet and discuss the altercation. It was handed down that Kaeding was disqualified for his actions after the main event. Lost in the commotion was the rest of the finishing order. As of press time only the top five were available. Grass Valley's Mark Hall was scored in the second spot. Mason Moore finished third. Robbie Whitchurch ran fourth and Zack Mason had a career best fifth place finish.

Here is a post by someone who said they are Andy's wife. She was responding to those that chimed in on the topic on the Hoseheads message board:

I have never posted on this site before, but after reading some of the ignorant posts, probably from people who were not at the race nor do they know Andy, What Tim did was wrong! If anyone knows Tim he passes on the high side to take most of his wins, this time it did not work out for him, Andy knew he was behind him and made turn 4 on the high side as wide as possible, Tim tried to squeeze through a spot that was not there and hit the wall, the damage was minimal on his car and the poor baby finished 2nd, WAH! WAH!

Andy had a win taken away at Santa Maria from Tim with the same circumstances, was he supposed to just open the top and let Tim take the win again, no race car driver would do that. It was a racing deal and a small one at that the two drivers finished in 1ST and 2nd, it was a good race for the fans until Tim decided to ram Andy after the race in the driver side possibly hurting Andy pretty badly, As his wife, (expletive) like that is uncalled for.

If something would have happened to Andy we could lose everything, Andy is the bread winner in the family, and NO sprint car racing does not make our house payment or pay the bills since he drives for free. He works long hours at his finish shop and then spends long nights working on the race cars, its always nice as a family to have the race car come home in one piece so you can spend time with your husband during the week, but Tim would not no that since he probably just gets paid his 40% and goes home to enjoy his family.

What Tim did was stupid and a real hot head move, something you should not see from a veteran of the sport, let alone someone who finished the race in 2nd. I am pissed and yes something better be done by John Pajen Motorsports. And for all you ignorant fans who thought that was real awesome to see, go get your own sprint car and let me run into it for a piddly $2000 Win, when now you are going to have to buy a new rear end, wheel, tire, chassis, and more. Makes a whole lot of since does'nt it!

It is my opinion that Tim should be charged with Assault, Assault with intent to harm and assault with a deadly weapon, and asked not to return until 2009 and has paid restitutaion to the Forseberg team.

Most people on this board would rather hang "Showtime" Danny Sheridan for the "antics" he has been accused of doing. Where are the posts' from all the concerned race fans at on this more severe situation? ?

I can tell that this TK clown never drove a stock car. If I were Forsberg, I'd have whooped he's arse. That don't belong in sprint car racing. I can only guess the Padjens (promoters) let TK off with a slap on the hand. Andy Forsberg is one of the few sprint drivers that watched the stockers when I raced in Placerville. He is a nice guy that races as hard as the next racer.

I agree with Mr Kierce (am I crazy) but maybe leave the assault charges out. But maybe leaving TK out of the Gold Cup this year would teach him a lesson!!!! But a night in county jail might do him good.

Henry, Had TK decided to walk over to Andy and challenge him physicaly that is one thing (good ol boys gettin er done) But to drive his car accross the tarck into Andys car,...TK is the PANSIE you refer to.

Well after seeing it... Yeah I agree with kierce, What Kind of a PANSIE uses his car for anything other than HARD racing, (clean or not) Slid job or not... I like an old style bare knuckle BRAWL !!! At least If you dont see It coming You can still wake up and shake off a bruise after a couple of weeks, That could of been alot worse than what we saw..... if he was a half a second earlier.... well I dont even want to think about that... Whats even worse is he does not have an arm bar... Furthermore: Lets take some bets!!! Who will be first to do that at perris??? Showtime? or Garrett??? or will it be someone else?

As much as I loved watching the Kaedings race, from Howard on down, they are legendary brats and bullies. There have been other incidents like this in which little or nothing is done. I doubt if much is done but I agree with double K and I had an opinion from a law enforcement friend that said everything 2K said. That is far from pansie and sissie stuff. Settle it like one should, not by ramming someone.

Andy Forsberg is a great guy and real racer. He raced many Bandit Shows doing double duty at Kings driving a winged car and non wing 360 with equal talent. A.F. won a race or two as I recall. Nice guy, loves his racing and his family. Wished he lived closer to run more Bandit shows but he is a wing guy at heart.

Thanks Rob. Interesting reading. After seeing the video I don't see how anyone could justify Kaeding's behavior. He really should, at very least, have to pay for the damage to Forsburg's car. No question the crash after the race was intentional and should not go unpunished.

The incident does highlight David Cardey's class shown in just calmly walking off the track after he was stuffed into the wall by that Sheriden slider at Perris a few weeks ago.
