Nobody's mentioned it yet, but the WoO drivers were shut out of all three nights of the Gold Cup in Chico. They didn't just fail to win, they failed to even get one driver on the podium in three nights. That's 0 for 9.  Day, Sanders, Larson, Golobic, Kofoid, Dom Scelzi took care of business.  Has that happened before?

Outlaw Karts. California is about 3 years ahead of the rest of the country in driver development right now.

Though the state itself is broke, there is still a lot of money in the hands of some people out there. Certainly more so than those in the Midwest anyhow. Certainly helps but so do all the outlaw karts as mentioned. But to your point Cali really put the spanking on them this weekend and are damn good when they travel anymore too. It's amazing they don't have more 410 racing out there really.

They laid the smack down on the outlaws for sure. How much does this race pay?

Every so often Chico is like that, I remember one year I went Macedo won his first WoO race and Allard won the Gold Cup. Good to see the race become an event again. Pretty soon they are going to need more seats.

Pretty much. And until other parts of the country start creating clubs/bodies/classes for them for kids, it will continue to be that way. The interest is there, several kids in our area would love to get in an outlaw kart and race them. Unfortunately there are no tracks around here that do and it would be a huge sacrifice by all initial parties.

Financial for a group or groups starting a track, and to the individuals buying outlaw karts to race 1 or 2 other people. It would probably work in the long term but the short term story up is the hard part to start

No doubt the outlaw karts provide a great training ground. But I thought Day, the Macedos and the Scelzis (and some other good drivers) grew up racing micros at Plaza Park and Lemoore.

You are correct about micros being a big training ground in CA.  Besides the two you mentioned, Delta Speedway in Stockton and Dixon Speedway are two tracks to the north racing just micros so lots of racing in those divisions (super 600, nonwing 600, restricted 600, Junior sprint) is available.

From the Plaza/Lemore area drives such as the Faccinto brothers, Scelzi brothers, and Macedo brothers are just some examples of talented sprint car drivers who started in micros.
