I saw this on one of my Motocross Forums on Facebook but it equally applies to Open Wheel Dirt Track Racing.

I went there many times the two years I lived in AZ. Looks like housing is moving closer which would have been unheard of when I lived there. Then again it looked like Manzanita was safe in 2002 and look what happened. Phoenix just lost AZ Speedway and now this.

I heard the former owner of Arizona Speedway (which also got closed down for this type of stuff) is building a new track. At this rate Arizona won't have any more race tracks which is a shame because they have an important legacy in sprint car racing and with the right promotion and track could probably have a big event again like Manzy used to have with the Western World.

Maybe the Reserve between Phoenix and Casa Grande will build something. They have the land and seem to do things right when other do wrong.
Or am I too far away to make that statement....

If you are referring to the Indian Reservation motorsports facility, Wild Horse Pass, just South of Phoenix, they did have a dirt track there in the mid 80's. At the same time that Manzy and Canyon were also operating and it only was open about 2 years. That would be the perfect place for a new track if an agreement could be reached there or any other Indian Reservations near Phoenix. The promotor would never have to deal with the state again, only the Tribes. There would be much less issues with noise, dust, operation hours, building permits and codes, etc. Soon after Wild Horse Pass was in opperation, the adjoining neighborhoods complained and sued the tribe to no avail because the Cities and the State have NO JURISDICTION on tribal lands.

Canyon Speedway Park is a stand-alone oval... Canyon Raceway is a separate facility behind and a little south of the oval, but you can see their lights and the motorcycles from the speedways stands if they jump high enough. Two separate facilities and as of now Canyon Raceway Park, the oval, is not being targeted.
Half the lies they tell about me aren't true.

Thanks for clearing that up. But, is it also under the control of the state land department or is it privetly owned or leased?

To clarify both properties are facing the same issue. This is directly from the promoter.

I think the problem with AZ politics is so many Canadians. Your government is trying to keep their majority feeling like they are still at home, in their communist country.

I have heard rumors that Wild Horse Pass could potentially build an oval. But it's probably just rumors. I am heading to Phoenix in a few weeks and will be checking out Central Arizona Speedway. First time going to that track. Figure I should probably hit as many tracks as possible before they cease to exist. USAC put on some incredible shows at Canyon. It sure would be a shame to see that place follow in Arizona Speedway's shadow.
Real race cars don't have fenders...
