I know this is a sprint car sight but just wanted to say. I have never seen the pits At port royal this crowded as they are this week for the mods. They had to extend the pit area out into the general parking lot

From the looks of the Grandstand on Facebook they have more cars than fans. Hopfully more show up for Friday And Saturday.

Modifieds are huge in the northeast. It's just that they usually have more cars than fans.

i'm thinking about going up saturday if i can convince my son to go. i grew up in the lehigh valley where modifieds are more popular. also grew up watching rush hour on dirt and was always amazed by the idea of a 200 lap dirt race.

I'm a sprint car zombie from the upper plains. Northeast style modifieds are foreign to me. Around here we used to have IMCA modifieds. We now have several flavors of B-mods, the slower version that spins out more frequently. What is a modfied similar to? A late model perhaps?

You know I haven't heard that before. Have they made improvements to the track recently or something?

I love New York style modifieds but outside of NY and a few other spots, they're not very popular. Unfortunately for the promoters, Central is not a spot where the mods are popular.

I think it mostly is a sprint car site, not sure though if it is a sprint car sight.

A Northeast Dirt Mod is a beast of it's own. The top level are big block powered, but they have SB and Crate variants. The driver sits over the drive shaft. Back in the early 2000's Rich Tobias built a car that could run as a Silver Crown Car or a Dirt Modified. So I guess the best approximation is an overweight, big block, silver crown car with a roof and quarter panels. Oh, and smaller tires. Suspension is coilover fronts with a solid axle, but the rear suspension can be a late model style, or a torsion bar style. I have also seen them with live axles and bird cages or full floater style. (I may have seen cars built to different rule books though, I don't always keep close track of that. The wildest variation I have ever seen was the East Windsor Modified, which had no weight limit, injected aluminum small blocks, and huge sail panels. They got around the track a lot like a Non Wing Sprint car, except they ran straighter because of the sail panels.

I like that they're more of a hot rod than Late Models, but the times I've seen them, racing wasn't too exciting

I've been tempted to go on the rare occasions that they have Big block & SB both, but never pulled the trigger. I've only seen them as part of a sprint car show
