Dusty Zomer cleaning out Loren Langerud in turn 4 last lap of preliminary night of 360 nationals at Knoxville. Ugly. Loren left in a stretcher and  never raced again. In Dusty's defense he had to lift in 2 when slider was pulled on him. Loren however had not that option.

I'm going with Brian Browns slide job on Randy Martin at 360 Nationals... That was pretty brutal....

in this area.....McCarl taking out Kenny Hansen at Husets in turn 4 multiple times in the same season.........the most memorbale one being Kenny climbing from the car...running half way down the front stretch with steering wheel in hand to get McCarl..........a near riot in the stands as the majority of the crowd wanted to get at Terry.....i believe that was the night he  ""asked""  to leave from the higher powers as they knew they couldnt protect him from the crowd

He didn't need to back then. Having the right crew chief makes a big difference.

Things seem to be more equal now. Several other drivers are just as good as Shatz. We're seeing that now.

I was thinking the samething.......love him or hate him.....Schatz is a class act on the track.

Yeah I remember that one too. Kreitz didn't brag, he just said he wouldn't have tried that move if it wasn't for 10G. Couldn't have happened to a nicer guy than Shaffer though. I saw him take out Troy Camp to win a heat race at Port Royal back in the 90's.

Yeah HC... Had a front row seat for that oneSmile!

Breaking my self imposed silence to add two more cents.  A gang of us hauled camping gear down there for the 1200# Nationals but I believe it may have been renamed to something like Working Man's Nationals so locals are welcome to fill in the blanks.  It was probably a good fifteen years ago that Sammy punted someone on the front stretch.  I want to say he was in the Forbrook car but again memory is fuzzy.  His victim was OK but he took a nasty ride and it was enough to wake up the boo birds.  One of my travel companions was GRP Motorsports who's decal has popped up on a few cars down there this season so I need to have him refresh my memory one of these days.

Back into exile, see ya' later.

Hardly in the stands and I don't think Bradley had any issue with that move. He probably would have done the same thing.

Yes Stan that was Matt Moro and it was a very vicious crash.

Thanks.  Do you recall the year?  All I remember besides the crash is that it was hot as hell and we spent some time drinking pitchers of beer in the bowling alley.

No I don't recall the year I just know it was the the Prelim at the 1200lb Nationals and yes it was hotter than a blistered pig out! There were a couple of grinders (Sammy & Moro on the straight coming  that night because I remember my kids going down to the restroom in turn #1 and about the time they hit the Concourse area there was a hell of a crash and I was concerned because I knew they were right by the crash.  I was thinking they had Air Rescue come in that night twice, At least once for a driver, Maybe both times?? Ended up being nothing serious though .

My most vivid memory was following my friend Vince all the way down there from Hammond, Wisconsin, with his trailer swaying whenever he went too fast.  After five hours behind that thing anything that happened on the track was mild in comparison.

I believe this was 1990 , but it for sure was at Port Royal.  Joe Gravino wiped out Daryl Stimeling in turn 1 &2 for either a heat win or just a position.   But Joe completely destroyed Daryl's car. I believe the wreck is on Lynn Scheaffer's highlight tape.

Anytime wiping out someone is bad.  But it is really bad to do it in a heat race for a regular weekly show. And really bad for a weekly show were all cars qualify.

StanM, that Sammy crash where he decided to run over Matt Motor at the flagstand was the absolute most egregious, blatant take out of another sprint car driver I have ever seen. I believe it was 2003. I don't recall the car Sammy was wrecking peoeple in, pretty sure Moro was in the Sonner 47. I was going to post that wreck, surprised you remembered it... Speaks to how dirty of a move it was by Sammy. Par for the course with him.

Sammy's intentional takeouts are far too numerous to even bring up.  Like that incident, he'd just dump you on the straightaway, why wait fot the corner?  His style, period.

2 come to mind:

- Dollansky taking out Kahne at Williams Grove in turn 4 (Kahne out of the ballpark)

- Jack Hewitt taking out Leland McSpadden at Eldora years ago in non-wing sprint cars

I remember the Hewitt-McSpadden deal. Hewitt flat out crashed Leland In turn 1. It was ugly. 1991?
