I'm pretty happy with the IRA. The car counts have dwindled a bit since they first started coming "up north" in 1999. Superior which is about as far north as they go used to get 30-35 cars every time. This year if memory serves me correct it was more like 26 or 28. They start 22 in their features which I like. They always have a b-main. Too many cars can make it a long night which gets old fast. I would have to agree with Stan in his statement, 30 cars is great.
It's usually $15-$22 to get into an IRA event and they typically put on a good show. Northern Wisconsin and Minnesota can't really ask for much more. The shows I saw this season which was about 7 or 8 I couldn't find much to complain about other than Brainerd being pretty cold. Whitney, Reinke, Neitzel and Goedon are always fun to watch. Any time Scott Winters showed up he made things interesting.
Charter is the only track in southern Wisconsin I have been to and I would agree their track prep is sub par. If you want to take a road trip and see great track prep and great racing come on up to Superior or Cedar Lake. Superior is always wicked fast. Tacky red clay at it's best. Cedar Lake always provides mulit-groove racing. Rice Lake has been a good show also.
I wouldn't say things are bad, just not in their hay days of a few years ago.
I was in Superior in September, and the "GREAT" track prep caused or attributed to a head on crash into the wall in turn two during time trials. The hole that you could lose a sprint car in, in one and two was ridiculous.
Stan you are 100% correct in your assessments and your posts are always very well written.
I know that Indianapolis Motor Speedway still uses manual scoring even though they have electronic scoring. For the Indy 500 they have one scorer per car still. It is also my understanding that the WoO has scorers in the tower for keeping track of the lapped cars as the current short track electronic scoring system doesn't have a proven method of calculating lapped cars. Unfortunately to go with an electronic scoring system there are some hurdles to overcome including cost and configuring each track for the scoring system.
If you want to help the state of the IRA, volunteer your time to help out the series.

Stan you are the man perfectly answered.
Complaining about a racing series is a lot like a guys who sit in the bar complaining about their relationship. If you don't like what she's got to offer it's probably time to move on. Eventually the bartender will get fed up with it and wonder if your story is going anywhere.
However, I feel that Sinn Feinn's (and that of its "President" Gerry Adams) move toward power sharing and away from abstentionism in the Northern Ireland Assembly could very well spell the end of the IRA as we know/knew it.

We met up with the crew that runs the IRA shows at a beer stand after a their deal at either Knoxville or the season opener at I think Oskaloosa a couple years ago. All nice guys and fun to yak with. Don't know anything about their Wisc. Mn. shows but can't b!tch about what we get down here. Their regulars seem to be getting better at Knoxville compared to a few years ago. I would like to see them on a really short track like Bluegrass or Tipton sometime.
