I've noticed a bit of a trend with Reutzel. He seems to usually qualify very well and then if he doesn't win he finishes very deep in the field with occasional exception. Very few podiums unless he is in the middle.Seems that guys like Schatz, Sweet and Gravel are much more constant at top 5s if not winning. Now I know my list is of elite drivers but what is reutzel missing? Does he drive too close to the edge that a slight mistake by anyone ends his night? He seems to be able to pass at will as I compare his starting spots to finishing spots on the good nights.

Is it an equipment issue or inexperience or impatience and if he were on the WoO tour instead of the Ascoc where do you think he would be in the standings?

Even though I may not know you, I
care what most of you think!

Dominating in every way last night. Outlaws being rained out forced me to watch the All-Star show at Plymouth. Reutzel is so far ahead of the All-Star class of racer right now I'm suprised when he doesn't win. I don't think he could contend with the top 5 right now on the Outlaw tour, but he's certainly top 10. I could see him competing with Pittman and Stewart at a minimum each night and picking up the ocassional win.

When he finishes deep in the field at an all star show it’s almost always because of some kind of incident, like Friday night when he checked up due to a spin and scelzi got into him

Reutzel with the All Stars is a lot like Brandon Sheppard with the WoO late models.  Dominating the “B” series of the major tours.

That was my thought. Scratching my head as I read this post.

He’s won 16 of 71 races since following the tour in 2018, over 20% win rate which in this day and age is pretty dominant. He clearly is competitive enough to run the WoO which is clearly a more competitive group than the All Stars.

Does anyone disagree?

Four drivers in the first five rows of starting lineup of the Knoxville A Main were All Star competitors who either are running the full tour or a large portion of it. That's not including Gio or Eliason.

They are plenty competitive.

And Reutzel was the only one who was remotely competitive in the A main which had the top 3 and 5 of 7 as Outlaw regulars.

No worries. I'll take an All Star show anyday over a greatest hyped show on dirt.

I think you should check the stats before typing... out of 23 Allstar races (his main gig) Reutzel has 7 wins, 15 top 5s & 18 top 10s

Blaney somehow leads by a mere 10 pts., despite Reutzel's 7 wins to Blaney's 3, & 15 top 5s to Blaney's 10

I'm guessing Blaney's top 5s  & 10s were better finishes than Aarons's? Too lazy to look up details....

Depends on how you look at it. A lot of gray area here. Yes his win rate is incredible and I would say he is always one of the drivers to beat at any All Star show. However he has not necessarily dominated the series in terms of consistency like say a Dale Blaney or Tim Shaffer did back in the day. Last year I think the points battle was still up for grabs going into what would have been the last race between Reutzel, McMahon, and even Macedo. This year he is currently 2nd behind Blaney and Eliason is right there moving up in the points. I went to the speed week race at Attica where he probably would have won but ended up getting collected through no fault of his own by a spinning lap car. Ended up finished 22nd or 23rd and Blaney finished 2nd. There have been a few of those instances where either he has bad luck or creates his bad luck and does not get the finishes that he should which I think is the level he would need to get to in order to be competitive with the Outlaws each race.

Are the outlaws a more competitive group than the All Stars? Yes, but I wouldn't consider that to be a knock on the All Stars. It is a competitive group of drivers, teams, and tracks which I think can help the talent pool for the entire nation. Looking at Macedo racing now, how Reutzel has performed, Eliason this year, Gio at a number of shows, Zearfross, and now maybe Justin Peck. I would put Reutzel right around where Macedo is performing now on the Outlaw tour if he were to go full time given how close in performace they were last year. I'm fortunate enough to live in the area where I can see both All Stars and Outlaws shows and I support both.

I think Reutzel has the speed to compete with the Outlaws I just am not convinced that he has the proper mindset to race with them and be competitive in the points. Too often, he either wins or its a DNF. I'm a Dale Blaney fan and the reason why Dale is leading in points right now is he is consistent. Reutzel is often faster but then something happens. Yes some of those situations aren't Reutzel's fault but the number of times it happens is far too high. Sometimes it's been the result of him putting himself in a victim's spot. That is, he puts himself in a spot where there is a possibility that something goes wrong and it does. There's a reason the top WoO guys have high finishing rates and as a result are high in points. Their maintenance programs are top notch and the drivers don't put themselves in those situations. When it's not your night you fight to get the best finish you can but the key is, you finish.

I have watched this forum for years and finally someone pissed me off enough to register so that I could write my first and hopefully last post.....

I get paid to look at, analyze and fix trends for a living and I'm not quite sure about the "trend" you've noticed. Sure we all can notice the short term trends that can indicate struggle or mediocrity and even when something/someone is dominant, if you look at a small enough window you can find some sequential struggle and claim a trend or correlation.  Its the long term trends that really matter the most over time because they are more likely to show success or failure. Here's some data for you:

2015 ASCS National Champion

2018 ASCOC Champion

3 Knoxville Nats A Mains in a row including 2 top 5's

9 Wins in 2019 including an Outlaw Show

Over 5 Wins in Primary Division competition each year over the last 4 years

Those are the hard stats.

Need I mention he was involved in the race of the year last year at the Sprint Car World Championship in Mansfield with Shaffer?  Hands down thats the greatest race I've ever seen in person and he lost...

I gotta say, theres a pretty obvious trend when it comes to this board and its the pervasive confidence of know-it-all keyboard jockeys who have probably never met, let alone had a beer with the drivers they spew off about.  Just do us all a favor and watch the damned races you claim to love then leave your unfounded criticisms and observations at the turnstile on your way out.

I feel the driver ratings method here is a fairly objective way to measure the different drivers. Do you disagree?

I hope to see him on the Outlaw trail soon! Ruetzel is getting very close to running with the best Sprintcar Series in the world, the WoO!

I can't help but think you got hit in the head with a hockey puck, one too many times ....

Your trend is lacking accuracy to say the least. If he stays healthy and in a ride with good equipment, Reutzel will be a contender anywhere he runs. The guy is exciting to watch !! What more can a race fan ask for …!?
