That sucks.  Sammy looked pretty decent in the ride too.  Hoping he can find a good ride for Knoxville in August.  He looked fairly decent there on Satuday night last weekend, and was hard charger at Beaver Dam.

Any early guesses as to which team opens a seat for Sammy in the next two weeks?

Is there a reason that Swindell doesnt race for Swindell? Is there a history or just an agreement to not mix work and family or ...... ?

Hope he finds somewhere to sit for the Nats other than the grandstand.

Even though I may not know you, I

I could see it for a couple of nights in better paying races but the bottom line is money. Sammy nor Kevin make enough money running together in my opinion.

Sorry for Thone but lets be frank that car was a shitbox and Sammy was a turtle in it.

I know Sammy has aged but he looked slow and shitty in that car and to me it's not his age so its the cab engine it had in it

it wasn't the best ride out there but they had a quality run at beaver dam and things seemed to be headed in a positive direction..as for engines thone used speedway which i would assume power was not the issue it was more set up..i do however think it was a classless move for thone to text sammy and let him know he was out of a ride..should have been done face to face after they raced the night before.

I agree but since when does the great Sammy Swindell struggle with setup?

since never so to me just watching it was the k-mart engines cause he really had shit speed and as far as him running okay at beaver dam raceway that was all setup on his end trying to compensate for the cab engine will only take you so far but on the half mile tracks you cant hide your motor and Sammy showed it with shit speed and Sammy knows how to go faster then everyone we all know that

Like it or not Sammy has been out to lunch on setup ever since the WoO switched from Goodyear to Hoosier.   He has never completely figured out the setup for 410 racing, and his results in 410 racing the last several years pretty well makes it obvious.

You all seem to forget last year, in the same car (diff #) his first four nights out he was 10th, 6th, 2nd then 1st. Yes it was against the All Stars but doesn't matter.  He can still drive and he shows it time after time.  He also hopped in the 39, last year I believe, but they broke that night.  At his age, he can still get it done.

Correct and correct.  There are a lot of folks out there that try to do the math and figure out how these guys are making a living owning/racing sprint cars.  You just summed it up for them.  Great drivers (whether in their prime or not) will be paid to drive for owners with money to throw around (not always a lot of money to throw around) or a big sponsor.  Guys like Kevin, try to supply a quality race car/team for guys who have some money to bring with them and finance putting the car on the road.  They have figured out how to make a living in both directions.  Making money together would be nearly impossible because the missing equation is outside money coming in---at least in the quantity needed.

I do believe there would be a good case for Kevin/Sammy to team up for a couple of weeks.

I'm 67 and soon to be 68 in a couple months so I'm close in age but a few years older than Sammy.  I can still work pretty hard but it takes longer to recover.  Every so often some new ache or pain pops up and unlike when I was younger they keep adding up and don't always go away.  Another effect of aging is that it gets harder to see at night and spot those deer on the way home from the races.

The reason I bring these things up isn't an attempt to get sympathy, I can still take a five mile walk every few days and I'm doing well for someone my age.  The reason I bring the effects of aging up is that they're relentless and subtle.  I think its funny whenever I bring this up in a Sammy discussion because it seems like a lot of fans think that because Sammy is a famous Sprint Car driver who has had a long career that gives him some kind of special immortality.  I'm sure I'll be scolded by his faithful when I so much as suggest that he's not exempt from aging.

One of three things generally happens when athletes stay a few years too long.  Their skills drop off dramatically almost overnight.  They get hurt and can't continue and the healing process takes longer because older bodies take longer to heal.  Or in some cases the skills diminish gradually until they're only a shell of their former self.  As a fellow old guy and a Sammy fan I want to see him do well and score one for us old guys but I know the reality of aging and based on that I'd say the driving career will come to an end sooner rather than later.

I'm looking forward to the cat calls because I am realistic about the aging process.  By the way, how old is he now?  64?  65?

Probably the most level headed, sane, realistic post I've ever seen in response to anything related to Mr Swindell. I've never been even close to being a Swindell fan, I respect the man for what he means to the sport and his abilities and, the black TMC 1 is hands down the most beautiful sprinter to grace dirt, I've just never been a fan. That being said, I'd still crack a smile if the old guy could score one. But what Stan said is 100% on target.
