I wonder if USAC told drivers not to go???

I don't think this is the case.   I think the case is the USAC guys were on the road all of last week.   They are doing a PA week next week.   It was more important to get home and rest from last week and prepare for next week than to spend another 3-4 days on the road for this event.

It is one thing for Robert to ask someone to support his show, but it is another thing to guarantee his appearance.   I am sure that Robert spoke to all of the people that he advertised.   I am sure that alll of them said that they would try to support him.   I am sure not any money was spent to guarantee thier appearance.  Lesson learned by all.

Well I finally left after the first "midget" heat. They ran three winged micro heats with four or five cars in each. Why they didn't combine those, I'll never know. Then the "midget" heat I watched had one midget and four micros. I figured they'd put all three midgets and the 6 or so non-wing micros in one heat and then maybe run a qualifier with the same cars. Splitting those cars into two heats was just silly and at that point I had had enough.

It got so bad that it started to hurt my feelings...

4 midgets and some micro's running without wings with the remaining midgets. Slugged you $25 to get in the gate, 8.45 and still hadn't seen a race. Ended up walking out, been to some bad ones over the years and this one was right up there, should of saved my money, could've had a steak.!!

For $25 I was entertained, I've spent more on less. Thought the micros put on a good show.

Hats off to the micro guys. I thought they put on a good show. Far from the crapfest some are making it out to be. The midgets were a bust but the micros were fun to watch.

Midget racing except for Chili Bowl is a hard to get cars.Micro Sprints are pretty popular just dont attract the fans to help pay expenses and the gate is important. Unless you know name drivers will be there best not to speculate. the $6000 to win is more than the USAC drivers usually get so its not the money.Probably should have tried RaceSavers and Micros and got a few top Knoxville drivers that would have been glad to help Robert out. The top names draw people no matter what they are driving.

Don't know how many Knoxville guys would support Robert. They know of him and his poor boy just trying to race act.The parts they've so generously given him through the years literally cover the ground around his house. Around here they know he won't help himself so they quit helping him. Why do you think he doesn't race around here anymore? He's went out and dropped names like this was a big deal but in reality it was just a typical Robert deal. Too bad, the right people could've really got something going.

A more appropriate name for last nght's race would have been:

The Comet Cluster

One of the best races I saw last year was at Newton Kart club with $500 to win Micros a full field of good cars from most of the clubs. One problem is the Micros are divided into Nebraska group, upper western Iowa and Minn, and South cental Iowa. This hurts car counts. Wondering if the 600 were as fast with wing as midgets without.I love midgets but they cost too much and the purses and numbers are not good.Give Robert credit for trying but promoting probably isnt in his future.  Pay the micros a good purse and they will be there.  Cocessions, Pit passes and back gate are what many tracks survive on. Insurance takes a chunk before you even start. Robert needs to talk to someone like Bob Lawton about successfull promoting.Terry McCarl is one of the best at Osky. The drivers and fans are happy' thats what it takes and hopefully a little cash left.

What was the track like? Had it been raced on in recent years?

The event to put on would have been a non-wing sprint race.

They're getting ready to run the micro heat races. One of the micros that took off their wings flipped in hot laps. Don Droud Jr. was here, but his car wouldn't fire. Something broke on Robert Bell's car (I'm not sure who was driving it, but it wasn't Robert). So we're down to three midgets and a few micros. The program is running very slowly and people are leaving. I wanted for this event to be a success, but I'm afraid this will be the first and last Comet Classic.

So it was here briefly and now it is gone ?

Like a comet ?
