Lernerville Speedway released their 2016 schedule and it appears as if the sometimes maligned WoO Don Martin Silver Cup is back to a 1 Feature, $25k to win race. The race's big billing the last few years has been the Twin Features (inverting lead lap cars from 1st feature). Most fans liked the Twin features; drivers and some media did not (thought it has more "prestige" as a 1 Feature $25k to win).

I liked the twin feature format.
Jeremy Eliott will be doing dances in celebration.

Also liked the Twin Features, but don't mind them switching back to a $25k to win, 40 lap race. When I saw the change my first thought was Jeremy will LOVE it...

I liked the twin feature deal at Lernerville. That being said, I wish Knoxville would go back to a 30 lap A. Change isn't always good.

Didn't the winners share used to go up $1000 every year?

Yes, it went up $1,000 every year. Not sure if it ever got past $35k to win though.
I am a fan of this decision. Been to all of the twin feature format shows and most of the original Silver Cup shows. Although you'd generally see some excellent racing in the second feature, having a $25k to win feature makes this a headline show again. Had 44 cars in the pits last year. I wouldn't be surprised to see that number higher this year, with this decision being the primary reason.

.... IMO this a major step by new ownership to gain back Lernerville racing status ................. I seem to remember alot of 35 & 40 lap features @ L-ville

Not dances, but very happy about it. Long overdue.

Yep 44 cars last year was a great turnout after "falling off" a bit the year prior. I think (without looking it up) that 2014 Don Martin Silver Cup had a car count in the low to mid 30s (still a great turnout but not like it traditionally was).
The $25k to win does add a bit of the prominence back to the event though I'm not sure the car count will go much higher than the mid-40s since it is a mid-week show. Though it IS in a good position geographically being the King's Royal is weekend before and the Grove is the weekend after so you literally have to pass Lernerville if you're doing both. Last year had a nice smattering of WoO, ASCOC & Posse.

Did you get the sense it was going this direction after talking to Gary Risch last year?

We talked about it, and I got a strong indication that it was going to go that direction. It's a good move for tradition and the prestige of the race.

Thought so and agree about the tradition and prestige.

Went to Lernerville last year for the first time for the silver cup after years of trying to get there. I was concerned at first after qualifying because the track was so slick and a lot of cars looked like they were going to slide right off the track towards the end of qualifying. The racing was awesome though, especially in the B-main with Saldana, Sides, and Cole Duncan racing 3 wide at the end for several laps. Both features were pretty good too as a lot of guys came from the back to the front and Dale Blaney put on a show in both events to win the Silver Cup. It was a great night and worth the drive and I would go back no matter what the format is. Track was nice, could see everything from where we sat, food was good, pits were good, parking was good, people were friendly, couldn't ask for more. Wish I could go again this year but my work schedule will not allow for it. May have to try to go to an All Star show there though.

After taking a year off the WoO is also coming back to Lernerville in September (they used to always do two shows at Lville, but did not last year). It's a Saturday night so may be better for your schedule. Unfortunately, it's on the same day as the Dirt Classic at Lincoln so the car count for the Sept show will probably be low with little to no Posse guys and probably most All Stars going to Lincoln. All Star Shows are great too but typically have a support class.

I saw the september date is back which is good. Unfortunately I probably will not be able to do too much traveling to shows this year as I have a little one at home now that needs attention. Maybe next I can make it back and bring him with me once he gets a little older. I don't know if he will be able to make it to a dirt track his first year but we will see, he's growing quick.
