Hey guys, Charles from Big Ant Studios here. I've come onto this project after the previous games have been produced so one of the first things I did is play all the games. WoO 2002 by RatBag is a standout and forms the basis for much of the improvements we want to make.
We've got some of the founding members and key personell from RatBag on board to help steer us in the right direction for this game along with creators of the current SprintCar rFactor mods - DirtWorksDesigns.
You guys are right, some of the previous games are much too casual/arcade and don't pay any respect to what a real dirt track does. We want to do it right this time around which is why we've turned to the fans, teams, track owners, crew etc. We'll be making the design of the game open and allowing any backers to beta test the features we make as they are completed every month.
|
I really like hearing that you guys have Ratbag and DirtWorkDesigns personell on board. And that you are open to feedback from fans and those in the racing world. This has many signs that this could be an amazing game!
What concerns me right now is that the funding has only reached 8% with less than a month to go.

I would rather spend $20 every weekend to take my son to the races than to spend $50 to buy him a game so they can sit at home in front of the TV.
In my opinion, if there was demand for hte product, they wouldn't need a Kickstarter Campaign or be begging the fans to fund the development.

I don't think kids are the question here Vande. They aren't the ones funding the campaign. I would guess that the demographics for these games are more in the 20-40 year old range rather than 10-20. However I'm sure there will be a 12 year old somewhere tearing everyone apart online.

We are thrilled to announce the official support of Keneric Racing & Kerry Madsen
Not only will Keneric Racing & Kerry Madsen appear in Big Ant Dirt Track Racing but they have also pledged an amazing $10,000 to our Kickstarter campaign.
The team here at Big Ant Studios are right behind Kerry Madsen for a back-to-back win at the World Series Sprintcar Finale at the Motorplex this Friday 26th February & Saturday 27th February.

Need to get the WoO, All Stars, NSL, and the top 10-20 dirt tracks to support this.

wouldn't everyone rather go to the races or take their kid, however as you know kids, and adults spend money on other sprint car related items...collectables, tee shirts, banners, etc.
That's like saying, I'd rather spend $20 going to the races than spending it on a $50 die cast model. Yes, we all would, but the game is icing on the cake, and who knows, may get others interested in the wonderful sport, that wouldn't of taken the minute to see what sprint car racing is in the first place.
I've become interested in other sports by indirectly participating in associated activities... fantasy football, rally racing, etc.
I agree with most of your opinions but just b/c the demand isn't there initially doesn't mean there isn't interst or a niche to fill.

excessive gaming can get out of hand but I don't see anything wrong with letting your son play a video game that will keep him involved in the sport during non racing season. The way it sounds, there will be more opportunity to tune your car which in turn could help your son learn more about car setup, chassis components, etc.
I agree there may not be the demand but thats more because most people have never been to a sprint car race and have no idea what it is when they see a game like this on the market.

I need a game like this to survive the winter. RFactor is great but annoying to download everything. A solid PS4/Xbox One game would fix this problem.

If you are going to buy the game, then go pledge the $69 that gets you a copy of the game

I could spend $69 and support this effort for a game that only hardcore fans are going to buy, or I can spend $60 and take 4 people to the races that have never attended before and try to make new fans for our sport by exposing them to it.
I think if we all focused our efforts on the latter that the former wouldn't need a campaign for the game to be made.

Or we could all do both(me for example) and grow the sport in multiple ways
