Adjustments Made to ASCS Western World at Manzanita

Lonnie Wheatley, TULSA, Okla. (September 12, 2007) – Several adjustments have been made to the American Sprint Car Series portion of Manzanita Speedway's Western World Championships in Phoenix for this coming October.

Rather than taking place on October 5-6 as originally announced in February, the event will now take place the following weekend, October 12 and 13.

Due to the necessary schedule change, the winged forces of the O'Reilly American Sprint Cars on Tour National series will not be making their debut appearance at the famed Arizona racetrack. That is a debut that will now be delayed until 2008.

However, it will prove to be a boon to the wingless ASCS Canyon Region, as the local contenders will welcome a legion of invaders for an unprecedented wingless 360-ci Sprint Car purse of well over $30,000 for the two-night affair.

Competing on Manzanita's half-mile on both nights, the popular Sprint Bandits format of heat races and qualifying races will be in effect to determine feature lineups. The top four from Friday's preliminary feature will be locked into Saturday night's Parker Store Western World Championship feature, which will offer up $5,000 to the winner.

Additional information regarding the ASCS Western World Championships, set to take place at Manzanita Speedway on October 12-13, will be available leading up to the event.

The ASCS Canyon Region will also be in action on Saturday night, October 6, for a standard series purse on Manzanita Speedway's 1/3-mile clay oval.

The ASCS Canyon Region brings the best in wingless Sprint Car racing to Arizona in 2007 with a slate of 24 events. In addition to Manzanita Speedway, the series will also be in action at Tucson's USA Race Park and Casa Grande's Central Arizona Raceway over the course of the season.

The 2007 season marks the 16th year of sanctioning Sprint Car racing for the American Sprint Car Series. With a dozen different Regions in addition to the O'Reilly American Sprint Cars on Tour National series, ASCS will sanction approximately 240 scheduled nights of racing at more than 100 different race tracks throughout at least 30 different states and Canada.

I am not very happy about the change, we had plans of running this event, but the race now conflicts with our VRA Grand Slam race at Santa Maria, so we will not be going to Manzy now.

Adjustments? That has to be a joke. No, really, everyone should wear clown suits and aluminium foil hats. Three weeks before the event you change the date? Very professional.

Well there is some good news, Kevin Montgomery posted this on the ABC motorsports.com forum. "I have verbal confirmation that several cars from out of state will be coming and also a few big name drivers. Jon Stanbrough, Cory Krusman, Ricky Stenhouse and Jesse Hockett are a few confirmed drivers with more to come.". and it will be on the big 1/2 mile.
