Have'nt heard a peep about the Emperor's latest decree concerning harder narrower tires and the consequences associated with the change. I am quite stupified as to the meaning of such an action and would like to use this forum to become more enlightened so that I too may be knowledgable and wise like my Master. I without disrespect and becuase of my own ignorance , humbly request a short list of benefits resulting from being forced to obsolete my inventory of RR wheels,(becuase now they are too wide), Obsoleteing any inventory of rubber for the RR and the LR that I might have bought in advance. ( If RR gets Smaller does'nt the left need to too?) Maybe the amount of bite increases with these swell new skins and makes the racing more competitive? (yeah right) like its not hard enough as it is to get ahold of the track as it slicks up .(maybe we can spend some more money experimenting with differant shock /spring combos to make up for harder compunds providing a lesser" at the end of the day "grip on the track surface.) Furthermore in my great ignorance I fail to see the act of grinding and cutting and grooving tires week in week out, in an attempt to make em work better , pleases any of the Great Empire's lowly subjects. But I guess it aint about us, huh ?
Any thoughts?

Actually, I think the new tire is a winner. Should save about $200- $400 per three race night. The fact that it is a little narrower will help make the H.P. difference closer. On the downside the ever elusive traction control will be much more of a benefit. (look to see more exhaust flame, usually just after the apex of the turn.) Wheel sizing will be a matter of choice. For me and my Weld wheels it will only reguire the changing of the inside non-beadlock portion of the wheel! No I did not run my car the last race, however I have already purchased the RT-3 and tested with favorable results. Sheridan ran the heck out of the Kittle car last race. The R/R looked like an RC-1 after only running hotlaps and qualifying. The biggest test will come at Manzy. Like people always say, "It's the same track for everyone", now we can say it's the same tire for everyone. Sorry, no negativity here, but I am sure KOP or Shuman will come up with something to satisfy your thirst. Have a nice day! Ray Stansberry

Hmmm, what exactly does that mean Ray? If you found ANY negativity in my post a few weeks back concerning the new DDDT-3 I am sorry, BUT I thought I would give people on the west coast the proper information. I have run the tire for the past couple seasons, and NO, they arent 16 inch tires, and NO they dont measure out 101 or 102 inches around, BOTH of these were statements from you....The wheel issue is going to be a toss up, I have run 18 inch 5 off wheels all year long, with and with out the DT-3 and have won 6 races, now if I had the means to get some 17 inch wheels, sure I would probly run them, but it really is not going to make or break you...If you dont believe me.... there is another car back here that runs 18 inch wheels with a little bit of success.. It is a #53 car... Have you heard of it? : )

Ray:
Don't need the recent tire rule to point out USAC's blunders. In fact I really don't need to say anything anymore. Car counts are down, quality of the fields are diluted. Why? Some of the most loyal car owners are either parked or semi parked. They are the ones who are doing the talking now (by sitting out).
You like what you got now? Thats your choice and god speed to ya. We will all look for your impressive results in the next "22" car field to come
PS: I would have sat this topic out, but by calling me out, I figured you were wanting to hear from me

I'm a bit curious as to exactly what the "problem" was that required a new tire to "fix" it?

Geez guys...can't we all just get along? No need to make this personal!
Ray...you and your family deserve some kudos for your efforts. You are some of the nicest people I've met in racing (in my 36 years) and I always see you lending a helping hand to others in the pits. The fact that you tow your sprint cars (360 and 410), sometimes two at a time, all over California to support the local shows is truly commendable. Thank you for helping the car counts!
John...why would you criticize a guy who is clearly trying to give advice and his opinion on the new tire? He called you out because he knew you'd reply (and it worked). But the topic of discussion is the new tire rule. How do your negative comments about USAC and car counts apply to this subject? Ray tows two cars a long way when he can...that is helping the situation. Aren't you "biting the hand that feeds"? The car count was dwindling far before the new tire rule was announced...and it's not all USAC's fault. If you ask the owners out here, you'll get a variety of reasons. Your opinion would have much more weight in my eyes if you owned a car yourself. I realize that you know a lot of people in this sport, but c'mon...we all love sprint car racing so why bash everything when given the opportunity? You watch a lot of USAC-sanctioned shows every year...think about that...
Lil' Shu...I think it's great that you often share your experience and knowledge with us on here. I personally don't think that it could be taken as anything other than helpful and informative. As you know, most of the West Coast teams don't get nearly as much opportunity for track time out here and could benefit from your discussion about what you guys are running out there. We have some catching up to do and any information is valuable. Thanks. P.S. Of anyone, you probably have the most passionate reason to bash the current sanctioning body out here. The fact that you're not (and even run with us on occasion) says a lot to us fans.

Well thank you Doug, and Al, I appreciate that, I really was just trying to give a little info from someone that has actually run the tire. As far as my opinion of USAC... Hmm. .. Do I like em? NO... Some may think my opinions are bias because of my name, but this comes from someone who has raced all across the country with many different organizations. They are not real good at what they do. I guess a few years back I would have wrote a big long message on here telling you my opinions about USAC, but what good will it do? I will be out there is a couple weeks to run Tucson and Manzy, and I will be there at the end of the year, but I am there for one reason, to try and win races, and support myself and my career, not because I want to support any certain organization.. I hope that doesnt come across wrong... : )
