I don't know how you guys feel on here but I would seriously like to see Knoxville bring back USAC on Sunday night or Saturday night before the Nationals , and then Terry Mc Carl can bring them over to OSKY onTuesday like it was . Its good to see different forms of racing other wing racing alone at the mecca of sprint car racing . You know they really didn't do the job with the previous USAC races there .

I absolutely, undeniably, totally agree with each point you make. I think that bringing back the USAC cars to both Knoxville & Osky will bring the fans of traditional sprint cars to both tracks in good numbers IF Knoxville promotes their race properly. That is to say with the media hype that goes with the 360, Late Model & 410 Nationals. If you wanna put butts in the seats, you have to first make certain the fans know an event is taking place & not treat an event like just another race.

Thank you sir 21x ,for your sincere opinion . I believe it would do nothing but help bring more fans to the Knoxville area to see all that goes on there in the way good racing , food ,fun, good times with friends, going to the NSCHOF , and more .

Someone associated with Knoxville told me that the plan a few years ago was to bring back USAC as part of the Capitani Classic, but that USAC did not want to play the role of support division to the 410 wings.

Are thay that stupid at USAC? No matter how you get your series in front af a big crowd, I would think doing so is a positive. How else do you expand interest in your product? I would enjoy a USAC show during the Nationals for sure!

It would probably be the best two nights of racing of the ten.

Absolutely true... Plus they don't want to run the big track like Knoxville and Osky.. Too hard on equiptment....
Hopefully once Des Moines is re configured to the 3/8 that is planned they will stop there... !

Casey Shuman and his WAR Series should run at Knoxville. IMO in the next few years this series could be huge. There is a large fanbase in the Midwest who wan to see wingless sprints on a regular basis.

Not true, they do not like to run midgets on 1/2 mile tracks. It would not be any harder to run a non wing on a 1/2 mile than a winged, but actually it would be alot more easy on non wing engines with out the down force of a wing.

I wasn't a big believer in the Cappy classic when they first started it, but I'd much rather see 80 410 winged sprints than 30 usac. I also get tired of hearing this "promotion" argument. The facts are that winged sprints are much more popular in Iowa and most parts of the country than wingless. I would love to see wingless cars back at osky, as they are much better there than the winged cars, but unless they want to come out to be the support class for the 360 nats, I'm not sure there's much chance of them coming back to knoxville in August.

I might be totally barking up the wrong tree, but I've always wondered if insurance plays a roll in Knoxville's reluctance to have nonwing shows.

You'd see much more passing with 30 nonwing cars than you'd see with 80 winged cars.

I have an idea, why not make the Sprint Car Nationals truly an event that crowns the best sprint car driver & team? By that I mean a points event at both Knoxville & Osky in August where, if you compete in BOTH wing & non wing events at both tracks, the team & driver with the most points is crowned the TRUE Sprint Car National Champion? I know it's a radical idea, but could appeal to the true competitor that we all know our sport has in spades.

Sedalia had the Missouri Nationals in the late 70's. They actually did something similar one year. One night was winged and one night was nonwinged. The driver that accumulated the most points over the two nights was crowned the champion. That year' champion was the late Gary Scott.

This post is dead on. This topic was brought a couple of weeks ago, and it was the same arguement. While there are a hand ful of people who would like to see some diverstity in thier "knoxville vacation", it is all about the promoters making the best decisions for them and their tracks. The Cappy Classic already has a large portion of people that are already going to attend the race regardless of what is happening. Bringing in 80 410 winged sprint teams vs 30 usac teams through the back gate is going to make a huge impact at the back gate.
Promoters are always looking at the risk/reward equation. It is lower risk and higher reward to run winged 410 vs 30 usac cars. Also, while there are a group of people who want to see some diversity, there are others who only want to watch 410 winged cars, and will not show up for anything else.

I would LOVE to see USAC back at Knoxville, but Knoxville won't allow the track to build a cushion which sucks for nonwing cars. Remember the last time they were there and the push trucks were running in the cushion after qualifying while they were interviewing Tracy Hines and Hines said over the PA that they were killing the track? Yeah.....

I don,t see it happening anyime soon BUT, I would TRY the Cappy Classic as a non wing show and run the Ultimate Challenge on Monday. Car counts started to drop because most Indiana cars that aren;t full time USAC'ers don't want to travel just for one race.

That is another myth. Osky had a 2 day show for non winged cars a few years back and they had about 25 cars. Car counts started to dip the minute they brought usac in as did the winners share (from 30k to about 10k).
