Wednesdays with Wayne – Exciting 2016 Ahead with 2c Racing!

(Bill W) December 9, 2015 – It will be a new beginning for sprint car driver, Wayne Johnson in 2016.  There are a number of changes in store, including the formation of 2c Racing, owned by Wayne’s longtime supporters, Todd and Kelly Carlile and the whole Carlile family.  An ambitious schedule is planned again, with a focus on the ASCS National tour.

Wayne finished 2015 strongly, and is looking forward to next year.  “Unlike this past season, we’re going in to 2016 with some consistency in our cars and components,” he says.  “We’ll be on Eagle Chassis, Outlaw Wings, Slade Shocks, Weld Wheels and Fisher Racing Engines.”

First up will be the Winter Heat Series at Cocopah Speedway near Yuma, Arizona.  “Our schedule will begin in Yuma on January 1,” says Wayne.  “We’re going to run the ASCS National tour as well as some select 410 shows.  We’re looking at an 80-race schedule.”

Wayne has owned his own team the past several seasons.  Turning ownership over should take some strain off the team.  “It’s going to take some of the load off of me for sure,” he says.  “We’ve been so busy lately that I haven’t been able to look up to be honest.  We started from scratch with this team.  I don’t know that one part is the same.  But eventually, I think it will make it easier.”

The crew is forming up nicely too.  “We still have ‘Slip’ (Conner Nelson),” says Wayne.  “In the next 30 days, we’ll be announcing another crew member as well.  In the meantime, our interim crew chief, Josh Hegwood, has been working with us here in the shop.  We have a new truck and trailer as well.”

Many of the same marketing partners that Wayne Johnson Racing had will be involved with 2c Racing.  “We’re still waiting on a couple of sponsors,” he says.  “Oil Medics, City Vending, Sebastian Sandblasting and Powder Coating and Outlaw Wings are back on.  We have Simpson, Rod End Supply, Chris Archer with Hoosier, Butler Built, Speedway Graphics, and some of the other partners we’ve been fortunate enough to have in the past.”

Never understand this. He lives outside Knoxville and could run 50 410 shows with not much traveling but they want to tow all over the nation to race an ASCS  360. Racing a 360 and buying boat loads of diesel fuel must be cheaper than running a 410 and not towing anywhere near as far.

Awesome to hear for Wayne.

Oswald, not to discredit Wayne's 410 record but he's been pretty good in a 360 these past few years.

My post had nothing to do with how good Wayne is in a 410 or 360. Just wondering if cost vs winnings is better running a 360 Nation wide than running Knoxville, Jackson, NSL and a few Outlaw shows for a total of 50 nights in a 410 within about 400 miles of home. And that includes about 25 shows at Knoxville that are only a mile from home.

But I am still glad Wayne has a good deal, I like him and wish him success wherever he races.

Love to see Wayne giving Josh Hegwood a mention.  First class move by Wayne.     These guys are doing to win some races in 2016.

I'm sure we'll see him in a 410 at times but apparently Wayne, his owners, and sponsors will race where they think they'll be most successful.

A question to any owners, drivers, team members, and even fans, in your opinion is it better to run for the same amount of money (say $3,000) and WIN, versus running 3-5th or even lower and get $3,000, assuming costs are the same?

That is realy my point. Is the cost the same towing to Washington, Texas, etc. as running Knoxville, Jackson Minn, I 80 Neb, and some shows in Mo and Wisc?

Again, this is in no way a put down of Wayne Johnson or anyone he is teamed up with. He is one of my favorites. Just wonder if the cost vs reward is really better traveling nation wide with a 360 vs cost vs reward running 410 at Knoxville, Jackson and NSL plus some midwest WoO shows.

Either way it is their choice for any reason they chose. Best of luck to Wayne. Hope he is 2016 ASCS National Champ and we get to see him in a 410 (or even a 360) a few times at Knoxville this summer!!
