Annual Trophy Cup benefiting the Make-A-Wish Foundation fires-off this Thursday at Merle Stone Chevrolet Thunderbowl Raceway
By Gary Thomas Tulare, CA - October 12, 2015...Excitement & buzz is in the air as the biggest week in California Winged Sprint Car racing has arrived, which means only one thing. It's Trophy Cup time at Merle Stone Chevrolet Thunderbowl Raceway.
Last season Dave Pusateri & the Trophy Cup team went over the $1,000,000 mark for donations to the Make-A-Wish Foundation. This weekend that total will grow even more when the 22nd installment of the show takes place.
All of the special events on the fairgrounds that benefit Make-A-Wish are returning once again, including the Thursday Chili Dog Night sponsored by Taco Bravo, the Taco Bravo Fiesta Night on Friday & the Saturday afternoon spaghetti feed sponsored by La Villa Delicatessen. The post race parties run from 11pm to 1am, while the spaghetti feed goes from 12:30pm to 2:30pm.
A new Saturday morning breakfast sponsored by the Tulare County Fairgrounds is also going to occur at 7am. A donation to the Make-A-Wish Foundation at the door during the special events is appreciated! All of these parties/events are not only fun for everyone, but they are put on to help out a great cause! Everybody is encouraged to stop by and enjoy! Live music as always will entertain the crowd.
Past Trophy Cup champions entered for this weekend include reigning winner Willie Croft of Sacramento, Campbell’s Brent Kaeding, San Jose’s Tim Kaeding, Wooster, Ohio’s Jac Haudenschild, Clovis’ Jason Meyers, Chico’s Jonathan Allard, Easton’s Tommy Tarlton & Fresno’s Craig Stidham. Brent Kaeding’s four wins is tops among all drivers.
Driver’s looking to take home the Trophy Cup for the first time will include Rico Abreu, Kyle Hirst, Terry McCarl, Tyler Walker, Bud Kaeding, Bryan Clauson, Sheldon Haudenschild, Justin Sanders, Carson Macedo, Roger Crockett, Andy Forsberg, Dusty Zomer, Dominic Scelzi, Shane Golobic, DJ Netto, Sean Becker and many many more. The entry list is scattered with talent from all around, in what has turned into a true “All Star Showcase” for the west coast.
Adding to the excitement once again this season is the fact that the Trophy Cup will feature Winged 360 Sprint Cars all three-nights to make it an all out battle for the Cup. All cars that start the Saturday A-main are guaranteed $2,000 in total winnings, with the overall champion guaranteed $20,000 in winnings.
Tickets continue to be on sale for the 22nd annual Southwest Contractors Trophy Cup, with all seating in the house reserved. Grandstand tickets cost $40 on Thursday & Friday and $45 on Saturday. Bleacher tickets are $35 on Thursday & Friday and $40 on Saturday. Kids 6-12 are half price and 5 & under are free.
A seating chart is available at www.thunderbowlraceway.com and tickets can be acquired by calling 559-688-0909. The pit gate opens at 10am on Thursday October 15, with the drivers meeting at 3:30pm sharp each day. The ticket booth will open at noon on Thursday & Friday, while Saturday it opens at 10am.
The Trophy Cup originally started out at the San Jose Speedway in 1994 and was held at the track until its closing in 1999. It then moved to the Ocean Speedway in Watsonville for one year, before heading to the Kings Speedway in Hanford from 2001-2004. In 2005 the Trophy Cup was moved to Thunderbowl Raceway and it has been held at the one-third mile oval ever since.
Keep in mind the new pit area policy. Starting immediately children UNDER 14 years of age will not be allowed in the pit area during the races. Those that are under 16 will be required to provide proof of age, which means a copy of your birth certificate, id or a notarized document. A copy is also required to be left with the pit booth staff. There is no copy machine in the booth so it’s required to bring a copy with you to leave with staff. Consent forms will be available in the booth.
The Merle Stone Chevrolet Thunderbowl Raceway is located at the Tulare County Fairgrounds on the corner of Bardsley and K Streets in Tulare, California. From the junction of SR 99 and SR 137, go west on SR 137. At South K go south one-half mile to the Fairgrounds.

This is the first time camping at Trophy Cup. I`m already kinda ticked at the price. 160.00 for a 10ftX10ft spot w/no hook-ups, and they MAKE you purchase 4 nights. I`m only staying 3. I guess it`s kinda like Field of Dreams, If you charge it they will still come!

Totally support you in your outrage about the camping situation but make sure your anger is aimed squarely at the fair manager and not the Thunderbowl promoter Steve Faria. The fair people are the ones who control the camp area and they've found a way to royally fuck up the once great atmosphere in the camping area by making a money grab. The wealthy old geezers in their 40ft bus motorhomes dont give two shits about the ridiculous prices and demands of a 4 day minimum stay. The people this new policy has completely screwed over are the blue collar folks who ARE the backbone of the fun event atmosphere that has built up Trophy Cup to what its become. So be sure to direct lots of anger directly at the fair management, especially the bitter old bitch cruising around in her golf cart collecting money!
Cheers!

No kidding, maybe I'll bring that old hag some of Santa Cruz's finest. Chill her out a little bit. Mesprint, I'm puzzled by the price you're paying. I called to reserve my spot and I asked them about the 4 night minimum, fully intending on telling them to get F'ed if they tried to charge me that much for a site without full hook-ups. I was told that only applies to premium site with full hook-ups. I can only make it for Friday and Saturday and that's all I'm being charged for (non-premium), it's still $40 but only for the nights that I'm staying($80 total), no extra charges. You may want to have a word with them. In all reality, if that's the way they're going to be, go park your camper in the parking lot, what's the difference if there's no hook-ups available. Maybe a little dusty but damn, $160 for a 100sf of grass!! Same goes for Calistoga, if it's one night show, you pay for two, if it's a two night show you pay for three. I'd rather they just raise the price instead of litterally forcing me to take the money out of my pocket and give it to them, just because they want more of it. I don't know any other way to explain it. They simply take more money form the people who are already paying for their service. It still puzzles me everytime a make my reservations, it used to outrage me but now I'm used to it. I guess that's what they hope for, much like my wife.

I'll give you credit for fully reading the instructions. I read them too but it seems that what saved me was that I refused to right down my credit card information and then fax it to a machine so it could sit there for the world to see, so I called and asked them about it. They told me to write my phone number in where the credit card info should go, I did, they called me (email actually) and you know the rest of the story. Maybe this will at least help for future reservations. Hopefully they'll work with you this year as well. Dealing with these fairground/camp nazis at dirt tracks is getting increasingly nauseating. I'm sure I'll continue to do as I'm told because I love sprint car racing and the atmoshpere of being at the track, but a little show of appreciation wouldn't hurt, and being taken advantage of is way out of line. Honestly, besides the sprint car races, when the hell else do they fill up the campground? Maybe the fair? Instead of Welcome Campers the sign should say You're Welcome Campers, as that seems to be their attitude.

Yep, money is a little tight so we skipped the camping and went with a three star hotel with two pools and hot tubs for $69 a night(I like Priceline). The motorhome is nice but with the cost of camping with the added money for fuel we are saving money by staying at a hotel. Yes we like the fun at the track but hell I'm getting older and don't stay up to late as much or as easy as I use to. LOL
