It looks like they were the only ones willing to help. That safety crew was completely disorganized

This video should be shown at every racetrack across the country to show how NOT to fight an methanol fire. Ridiculous that all of the extiguishers used did not put a dent in that fire.

I try not to bash any track, but that was pretty bad. Some better equipment maybe in order. But in my opinion, a little training on proper use of said equipment and the handling of methonal fires (or fires in general) would go a long way.

Looks like they were trained by the idiots at Lakeside Speedway (1992)! Piss poor example of fire protection for drivers!

The reason the hose ddin't work was because they couldn't get the engine started on the pump or so I read...
Started? Should be running anytime Sprints are on track. If you have to plumb a return back to the tank and have the pump pumping when the Sprints are on track.
Use two valves one for return to the tank, one out the hose. And label them.

Watching the video was a little unnerving. It looked like all of the safety crew had fire extinguishers, but their use of the fire extinguishers was really bad. At one point, the safety crew member was yelling at someone behind them, and spraying their extinguisher up in the air.
When I go to the track, I will look at the safety equipment set ups. There are some easy tells if the safety crew will stand a chance if put to work. Do the corner workers have fire extinguishers? Do the corner workers have on safety equipment or are they running around in cut off t-shirts. What shape is the fire truck/crash cart in? Is the fire truck in the infield or buried in the pits? Does the fire truck double as a push truck? Does every pit have a fire extinguishers in the pits?
One of the local tracks that I go to fail on many of these points, but the one that drives me crazy the most is that the fire truck doubles as a push truck. I don't know how many times the fire truck leaves the track surface to push someone to the pits, and is in the pits when the race is on.
This is an area that a little discipline will go a long way to correct a bad situation.
BTW. I know that Lakeside will never live down the Wolfgang fire, but they have greatly changed their fire fighting capabilities. A couple of years ago there was a fire in the pits when a driver tried to fuel the car and charge the battery at the same time. There was a huge fire that I thought was going to turn into a bad situation, but the drivers around the car in question all had fire extinguishers in their pits and was able to put the fire out.
