Now, rework the track into a high banked 3/8 mile and watch that place sell out

Nicely done! Very exciting to think of Jackson as a premier racing destination for fans and teams, and although it would be a bit of a shame to see the big half mile go, maybe it's time to say goodbye. I once heard a driver talking about Jackson in comparison to Knoxville, and he said he would rather drive down the backstretch and into turn 3 at Knoxville, without a helmet on, then down the backstretch and in to turn 3 at Jackson with one on. Gnarly old racetrack, for sure.

No doubt, 3/8 mi highbank would bring much better racing than what we see at Jackson right now. It was better after Todd widened the track this year but still not real racey. The new grandstand looks awesome!

Yeah, just have a bunch of cookie-cutter 3/8's like NASCAR has cookie-cutter 11/2 mile tracks. Changing the track doesn't guarantee better racing. Work with what you got and try to improve it before making a drastic change. Granite City, IL. was better as a half than it is now as a glass-slick 3/8's. Maybe build a 3'8's inside the half and share the front stretch if you want change. Granite City used to have a quarter-mile inside the half with a shared front stretch and would run the support classes to sprint cars on it and it was pretty neat.

Was this really built in a week or is that a rendering by the construction company?

I may be mistaken but weren't the Jackson seats replaced with new bleachers a few years ago. Are these seats replacing those?

So where did you get this picture from? Did you just post the picture thinking this is the grandstand Todd was putting in?

I agree....let it alone at least for now. I think the changes made already will lead to a competitive racing surface once they get the prep and grooming down.

Jacobladder, are you kidding me? Granite was a big, flat boring track. Especially for body cars & midgets. It is one of the best racks around now if it doesn't lay rubber. Right on the fence or right on the tires & slide jobs all around. Good racing no matter what the class!

I was told the stands are from Rockingham. I looked at a you tube video and it looks like thats where they are from. Way cool!

Haha well I have seen people post some far fetched things on this board over the years. Thanks for the info.

I agree. The old Granite City was a snoozer. Really fast. But not great racing.
A driver once told me going into turn 1 at Tri-City Speedway (IL) was like sprinting down the halway at your house and turning left into your bedroom at the last minute.
"If you're gonna run the bottom, you might as well get
a real job."

I loved the half-mile for sprinters which is when I went. I live 170 miles away so I don't hit the track regularly but the Outlaws had some great shows there years ago. Last time I was there a couple years ago sprints were smoking the tires like a NHRA burnout. You can have that crap.

Been to Granite plenty of times. Raced there as well. The 1/2 mile sucked. The 3/8 mile sucks. The 1/4 was decent. They just have terrible dirt, unfortunately, because the 3/8 is a beautiful looking track.
