Mileage is something that all teams must factor in when running. I guarantee you can get a 410 to be more fuel efficient, but that comes with the sacrifice of power. Each team muse make that judgement call. From the PennLive article Schatz said that they were running the 30 gallon tank. Could that be a typo? If not, and they chose the 30 gallon tank, then that strategy did not pay off.
From the WoO rule book:
"All teams racing with the WoO Sprint Series will be encouraged to run a 33 gallon fuel tank and bladder. At all WoO Sprint Series Events 33 gallons of fuel will be considered as part of the formula utilized when determining the total number of laps prior to refueling in any specified and/or announced event"
Congratulations to the entire Larson Marks team!

There are teams that run 28-gallon tanks during the season. As for the story, not a typo. He was using a 30-gallon tank but so were others. Clean air and running up front also comes into play.

Schatz said: "We aren't skimping. We are full of fuel, we use the 30-gallon tank, so I don't know what else to do."
My only comment is that they are skimping and could have run the 33-gallon tank. Three extra gallons which are available to him by the rule book, which they chose not to take full advantage of, could have been the difference maker here.

We can argue the fuel thing for days. But, does anyone really think Donny was going to hold off Shane? I dont think he was.
