    If the whole field had 4'x5' wings, wouldn't Dietrich and Stewart have done just as well, but saved some wear and tear on their engines/drivetrains.  Perhaps you're right that in areas that are over-run with sprint cars this doesn't make as much sense.  As long as your area has an overabundance of car owners willing to put up the cash, then yes, there is no reason to change.



I doubt it would have saved them any money. Here is the ugly truth of it and we can use all forms of motors ports as an example of this.

Engine cost:  The costs/wear tear on the engines is a product of what the sport and the budgets of the participants can bear. This is why top fuel dragsters only get one run out of a rotating assembly.  Because the majority of the owners and owner budgets allow it to happen. If it wasn't feasible then it wouldn't happen.  This is why 360's were so popular for a time (And they are even more locked down than a 410) and still are in certain areas of the country. 

Fact:  Racers and race teams will spend 100% of their available funds to go faster.  Whether it be in wings, tires, motors, chassis, shocks, and so on.

Fact:  Many grass roots racers that don't have a lot of money use the leftovers from the teams that have that new toy.

Fact:  You can't control that mentality, so rather than doing something that would cost the have not teams a ton of money lets just Leave it alone and not try to fix a problem that doesn't exist.

+1 and make them narrower and shorter    Simple rule for what size is legal, build a box out of plywood.    The box has to fit over the winners tire after the race.    If it doesn't fall freely over the tire, DQ.

 

Hard tires and less rubber on the ground, leave the wings alone.

 

 

For every one that wants them to "take the wings off" just go to a dang wingless show already.     They're already out there if that is what you really want to see.

 

 

 

 

 

 




I do go to the real sprint car races.

Have you ever been actively involved with a car,  like actually working on it or paying the bills?  Serious question.

Two things I have always said when the flat wings came out. We moved the high presure point to the back left corner of the wing. And caused the cars to be arrow sensitive.

Two easy fixes remove the wicker bill and raise the right side board and lower the left side board make them the same. That takes the rudder effect of of the car. Removing the wicker bill lets the air off of wing go right on to the next wing not up into the air.

What they should have done is, never messed with changing the wings in the first place.   Go back 10 yrs ago and you never heard of "dirty air" at a sprint car race.

Prior to messing with them, the wings hadn't changed much in 20 yrs.   Bigger tires and better compounds is what has made the most difference in hooking up the additional hp.

 

Narrow the tires up and shorten them to put less rubber on the ground, and make em hard enough that they can't lay rubber.

Not sprint cars but my own personal S10 pickup truck.  V8 swapped, raced some SCCA.  2wd Blazer brake package with a LS1 under the hood.  Built my own motor(s) and done all my own work.  Care to see pics email me and I will dig them out and scan them.  Any more questions????
