I'm just hoping for enough for a good C main. I know Lasoski, McCarl and I Madsen are running Knoxville according to their websites. I would image a few PA guys will come over (Marks, E lynch, maybe Wolfe) but I'm sure most are tuning up for W.G. the following weekend.
For being, arguably, the 2nd biggest race of the year one would think pulling 65 plus cars would be a reality. So my question why will there most likely only be 45-50 cars? Too tough of a track? Not enough start money? Running for points at their home track? 2 day show not enough to make the tow? Too hard on engines?

I doubt Lynch will. He's running weekly at Lernerville and I don't see him making the 5 hour tow for one night.

Isn't it 48 cars that is needed to run the Kings Royal format? 6 heat races with 8 cars per heat if I remember right. I'm kind of brooding about the whole deal since I am not able to go!

I believe it is 48 cars. Win the 6th heat and you sit on the pole.
Lynch usually comes over on Saturday. I think he was quick time several years ago and won a 4 wheeler for doing so.
Personally, I love this race weekend. I would show up even if it drew 30 cars. Just wish it was a lil bigger event in aspects of the drivers/teams.

Lucas is the points leader at Port Royal so I doubt you'll see him at Eldora.

Exactly!!! Kinda wish tracks wouldn't run against the Royal as far as points anyway I don't know, I'm just a fan who wants the Royal to be bigger than it is I guess.

Yes I agree. I dont think any track in the country should run 410s against knoxville, Eldora or williams grove.. Talk about growing the sport... 80 to 100 car fields, increased payouts amd plenty more fans. It could all happen if everyone came together for the betterment of the sport.....but sadly it wont.

Kings Royal pays exact same $50,000 now as it did many years ago. I would bet you can now buy about 1/2 as much now as you could back them. I will also bet the ticket prices are about twice as high now as then. It needs to pay more all the way thru field. You will then get more cars.

I agree 100%. Pay more through the field and the car count will increase. I bet if Tony could sell one more hotdog he could probably up the start money. Haha

Ticket prices haven't moved much over the years. As for the pay, it should probably be higher through the field than it has been.

That's asking a lot. It's a tough economy still, and our race tracks are fighting for people's entertainment dollars. If you asked a track to close for every "big" sprint race, that track wouldn't be around very long. For a lot of tracks the season is short as it is, plus figure in rainouts. I think it is unreasonable to ask a track like Knoxville to shut down for a track like Williams Grove, which is almost a thousand miles away. Remember, this is a business.

Was visiting with Doug Wolfgang about that a few years ago at his shop. He was the "King Laureate" in 2010 when Sammy won the King's.......he told me that he and Sammy discussed those things on stage, and Sammy said they had over $50,000 in their engine. Doug said the last time he won the King's and collected the $50K, they had $9000 in their engine.

Engine cost have increased then at 500%. I wonder what ticket prices were for the first Kings Royal? I doubt ticket prices have increased that much. If they would pay 20% more purse would they get 20% more fans? Probably not. They are right in there sweet spot as far as making money increase in purse wouldn't increase car counts or attendence at same rate. Earl was about making money but he really wanted to have the "biggest show" which he tried to do w/ the HBO but it just didn't make financial sense. I go to the royal every year and will continue to

I think not running at all is excessive, but maybe not for points. Placerville use to do that for the Dirt Cup.

The last year Wolfie won the Royal was in '90. If that's true ($9k), that's pretty crazy. I know that a lot of guys were experimenting with higher compression engines at the Nationals that year ('90) - and more blew during the A-Main than I ever remember! Higher compression usually = higher $$$ ... so maybe that was the turning point for engines racing towards $30k and beyond!!?

Would $9K even cover a rebuild for a 410 these days.
As a fan would we notice a difference in racing if the motor had 950 or 700HP ?
We would notice a difference in more cars, been to some shows with just 20 cars, left wanting more. Been to a few shows with only one class of sprint cars with nearly 80-90 cars, those are the races I remember, really tough to just make the semi. I could care less if the motor cost $20 k or $65K
