Almost every time I watch a WoO race or highlight video, someone gets shafted on the double file restarts. The driver who is behind when the yellow waves should restart behind when racing resumes. Depending on the track, restarting on the top or bottom position can give the guy that was behind an advantage. Many times it's just handing a guy a position IMO.

I thought on double file restarts, the leader gets to choose inside or outside, so if they get passed by reason of having chosen the wrong lane, that's their fault, not the rules. Maybe it differs though amongst the sanctioning bodies/local track rules, I don't know.

I think that applies only to the front row? I am unsure of that as well....
I just see alot of guys getting passed on the restarts...front row, second row, etc.....especially when they restart on the bottom but had been running the top or visa versa....I just don't think it's fair to do it this way....

On double file restarts with the WOO the leader picks in side or outside and the odd placing cars are in his lane so places 1 3 5 7 9 etc line up behind him 2 4 6 8 etc in the other lane ... i for one wish all sprint car racing would go to double file restarts .......

Guys getting passed on restarts? How horrible! I think it's called racing. The Outlaws need any and all passing they can get.

Completely spot on. Anything that means there might actually be a little bit of passing at an Outlaw race is a good thing.

So how is a double file restart different that the start of a race? Half the field starts on the bottom when the fast groove is around the top and visa versa.
Some day you will learn there is very little in life that is fair.

Jacobladder, I agree, that more passing is good....but I object to it when a guy has opened up a good distance between himself and another guy, and because of a yellow, the guy behind gets to restart NEXT to the guy whom he couldn't catch before, nevermind the lane choice.
I just prefer to see single file restarts. I think it is more fair. There is still passing on restarts when you have single file. It just happens in turn one instead of before you get to the flagstand. That's racing! But I respect your preference Jacobladder!

Personally don't care for them but my reasoning is this.
Start of a race on a big 1/2 mile it takes roughly 7-8 laps to catch lapped traffic (where the real racing begins IMO). When you have a double file restart, you go another 7-8 laps as opposed to 4-6 laps to catch lapped traffic.
The other item is abitrary scoring on whether someone "jumped" the restart. Single file starts you can see (and score a race) if somone passes a car before the cone. On a double file restart the guy that spun and is restarting 20th may be in the top 12 before the green actually comes out.
As far as passing goes at WoO events, that is more an issue with track prep IMO. If the track is taking rubber during time trials or heat races, it's going to be a no passing follow the leader race no matter what.

You make good points vande77. I wonder which format the drivers prefer?
It seems there is passing at WoO events, like you say, if the track prep is good. Donny passes everyone no matter where he starts!
I like the way the All Stars have been doing it. I think a guy has earned his spot and should start ahead of the guy behind.....
