Cornell Breaks the Streak at I-80
By Anthony Ainslie
6/26/15

Jonathan Cornell came to I-80 Speedway from Sedalia, Missouri to compete with the Nebraska 360 Sprint Car series and walked away with the money for winning the feature plus a bonus.
After Jack Dover won five races in a row, a $1,000 bounty was put on the Springfield, Nebraska driver, and on Friday, Cornell took the checkered flag during the Alphabet Soup Race at I-80 Speedway.
Friday’s 25-lap sprint car feature saw Chris Martin lead the first three laps, then it was Jonathan Cornell who made the pass for the lead.
While Cornell was working through lapped traffic, Dover drove his way through the field. He passed Tyler Drueke with 18 laps to go and then passed Billy Alley for second with 11 to go.
From there, Dover set his sights on Cornell for the lead and the win. Dover was the fastest car on the track and got closer and closer to Cornell lap after lap.
As Cornell worked the bottom of the track, Dover tried the top of turns one and two to pass Cornell for the lead, but instead, Dover lost valuable ground on the 28 car of Cornell.
Dover ran Cornell back down and tried a last-lap slide job in turns three and four, but Cornell held his line and kept his cool and took the checkered flag.
Cornell took the $1,500 payday plus the $1,000 bounty that was put on Dover after 25 caution-free laps.
Dover got a close second and was awarded an extra $100 for his efforts. Billy Alley finished third followed by Tyler Drueke and Cody Ledger to round out the top five.
The next stop for the Nebraska 360 Sprint Car series is a trip back to the Butler County Speedway in Rising City, Nebraska on July 11 followed by a return to I-80 Speedway on July 16 as part of the prelude to the Sliver Dollar Nationals.
