Just a few thoughts from the Huron WoO show...
1) I don't get to atrend a lot of WoO shows due to the fact I have moved to Late Model Wissota country in north central SD. BUT THE SHOW AT Huron Saturday was top notch. Kudos to the track personnel. This was their first Outlaw show ever (and rarely run sprints) and you couldn't tell at all. With the exception of the big crash that tore down a big portion of the front stretch catch fence the show ran seamless and I don't think the track could have been any better...smooth, fast, 2 lanes and little dust. (Maybe Husets should have the Huron crew prepare their track for the traveling band... A quote from 1 WoO driver and 1 owner...Husets has been kinda painful lately). Speaking of the fence incident..the Huron crew did a good job with a formidable task. And no, I'm not a regular Huron attendee giving them a gold star...this was only the 3rd time I've been there in 22 years. I truly hope the outlaws return next year...we will be there.
2) it was the first WoO show for my 14 yr old boy (But not 1st sprint race)...he's hooked. After some great heat action he told me "screw going to another NASCAR race Dad...I wanna see more outlaws!" . Thank you to Mr Dan Motter after the races for making him feel special at the 71m pit. He spent quite some time visiting with us afterwords and taking pics with my son. You are a true ambassador for the sport. As well, Chuck McGillivary, you never disappoint. Score one for the little guy who made a showing by getting outta the b and making the show. He had the second best quote of the night. "We got all of maybe 15 grand in our motor and these guys got 50 so i guess we did something tonight".
3) quote of the night was from Bobby Allen. told him that still my favorite Nationals memory was my first trio there in 90, to which he responded in his usual quick wit quiet voice "it's mine too".
4) too the arrogant pompous ass wearing a blue under armour shirt inside out and a bald headthat whined until we moved because his friends wanted to sit where me and my boy were even though we had driven nearly 3 hours one way to get there 2 hours early to sit in the stands to get a good unreserved seat (there were no reserved stickers on our seats of which I had 2 track stewards tell us we could sit there) we still had a fantastic evening despite yourself. You helped me prove to myself that I can hold my temper if I decide to and show my boy an adult way of acting when others are doing their best to show you how bigger, better and more important they are than you...otherwise known as small p*#*er syndrome. The third quone of the night went to my boy I guess when we found seats with a bit less quality, but the extra room and cool folks we met there made it a grand mov, when he said "I guess what you've said before is right Dad. There's no sense arguing with an idiot!"
5) it was a great Fathers Day Dad/Son trip! We saw great racing, met great people, laughed and learned a few things along the way.
