Man, we don't know what TMAC and his Doc's know but it just seems like a terrible, terrible idea.

Actually this isn't far fetched at all. It depends upon the fracture site. It has not been released what type of fracture it is. The location of the fracture would determine the amount of time he is out for. A transverse process fracture in the lumbar region is a fairly minor fracture, usually requiring little to no treatment. With this type of fracture TMac could compete this weekend, most likey wearing a lumbar support brace. It would probably be a bit painful, but there wouldn't be any concerns for further injury to the spinal column or adjacent nerves/spinal cord. On the other hand, if it was a pedicle or laminar fracture there would probably be no way he would be racing this weekend - and would most likely be out for a significant time in order for that type of fracture to heal.
So if there's talk about him potentially racing this weekend, my guess would be he suffered a trasverse process fracture at L4.

Would there be any risk of enhanced damage if he were to have a wreck again (especially if it's a hard one)?

Yes, but really only if the broken off process somehow moved and compromised the cord or a nerve bundle leaving the vertebral body. So probably not tons more risk than before the original injury. Assuming it is a L4 fracture, if there is any effect on the nerves, it might effect the sensation and motor function of parts of his legs and feet a bit. Taking that control and feel away might have a negative impact.

Are you a doctor, or did you just stay at a Holiday Inn Express last night?

I googled it while in my room at the Holiday Inn Express. That's like double knowledge right there.
I I was just trying to add valuable information to the discussion. Probably get banned for that concept.

Didn't mean it to sound like a smart a$$! You just sounded like you might have been around this type of injury before? Not busting your chops at all! Seriously you must be in the medical field??

I thought you were joking so I was joking back, then poking fun at the BS that goes on on forums some days. No offense ever taken.
I do a little medical stuff now and then, yes.
