Wasn't his name Leon if I'm not mistaken and he was involved with Morrie Williams?

When did he die, Dean ? Now I know why I hadn't gotten any replies to my e-mails. He had gotten ahold of me a month or so agoand told me he didn't even know where the 5 previous months had gone.

His name was Leon and he was involved in several things, one of them being the Williams team. Other things he was involved in got him some government sponsored confinement. I've met him and had mixed feelings. He seemed like a nice guy, but in retrospect it was part of his act to be a "nice (honest) guy".

You are right Two Door. Leon did make some mistakes and he did pay for them. But, he was a friend and I know that he regreted how he handled things. But to to say he put on an act is a bit harsh. Leon was a man like many of us who made mistakes trying to move our sport ahead. He paid the ultimate price and regretfully lost everything due to cancer. After beating the first episode he died fighting it again. Do we know the whole story, I doubt it, but I know as a friend I will miss him.

I am really sad to hear this. Hey, we all have skeletons. But several years ago Leon contacted me knowing I was gonna head to the WoO at Fargo. I had never talkes with him at all other than on here. He asked me if I would pick him up some WoO decals and send him. I believe he wanted them to put on a camper or something. I said I would and he asked for my addy to send me some deNero to pay for them and the shipping. His $ showed up along with "0" t shirts for the family all signed by their driver at the time Peter Murphy. I got him his stuff and sent him them back along with his $. The shirts were enough. A couple years later around Xmas time, "0" Xmas ornaments for the tree showed up. That's how I will remember him...as a nice guy. RIP my friend and may you be in Heaven 3 days before the devil knows your dead. DakotaDude

Thanks for this, Dean. I still remember the tribute to Leon we had at Silver Dollar and Sierra Nevada, with Andy Forsberg, etal. I've been wondering how "Openwheeler" had been getting along as we hadn't heard from him for a couple of years. RIP, Leon. We know with the strength of your faith where you will be.

Tremendous sprint car fan and friend. Had the pleasure of meeting him and his lovely wife - drove out of their way to visit me and my family in Arkansas. Incredible person...
He is in Heaven today - of that I can attest.
