Per www.ascsracing.com, Wayne Johnson will be competing full time with the Ascs national tour this season. This comes less than a week after he picked up the inaugural NSL feature.

He was on Winged Nation Tuesday and said he did not have the funding for the NSL/410 full time. Said he feels he can make more money running ASCS National due to lower operating expense versus trying to stay competitive with the cost of 410 motor rebuilds. Guess when you are owner and driver you gotta do what the pocketbook says.

From a FAN STANDPOINT, I'm disappointed I won't get to see him run @ Kville every week.
The business side of me says he's making the right decision. His odds of winning the NSL or Knoxville titles is not very good with the budget he runs, and even running top 10 at most races is going to be difficult for everyone. Running ASCS makes much more financial sense as he will be a for sure Top 5 car at virtually every event, pick up quite a few wins (I would think anyway) and compete with Jeff Swindell and Johnny Herrerra for the title. It;s really a "no brainer" for him and his team.
Hopefully he'll be successful, pick up some more sponsorship and can go back full-time 410 racing in 2016.

I find it curious at best. He will be running for basically the same purse and traveling 3 times as far to do it. he currently sits 10th in Ascs points however you can take out Herrera, smith, kemmenah, and Wilson as they aren't Ascs title chasers this year. That realistically puts him 6th with a 100+ point deficit.

Purses are virtually the same, however he will get tow $$ with the ASCS and is basically a top 5 car unless he has a part failure, engine failure or a crash. There are nights with the NSL and at Knoxville where he probably wouldn't make the A-main due to the level of competition alone (plus those other potential issues)
He went with an option where he has better odds of making more $$ - and hopefully attracting sponsorship by running up front every race. Even with the additional travel, it makes way more sense businesswise.

I'm just glad he has the option and the continued ability to be on the track.

I'm sure ASCS allowing all aluminium 440ci engines had some part in the decision. He already has the perfect engine program.

I don't think it has much to do with which series he can be more competitive in, he obviously proved he can win with the NSL, but with a limited budget, it's a no brainer to race 360 vs 410 if the purses are the same.

Not chasing points at all. Picking and choosing $$$ races according to his daughters on Twitter and FB.

Glad to see him back in the ASCS, I'll get to watch him run more often. Sucks that a loss of sponsorship had a hand in it. Anyone know which sponsor fell off?

Wayne has never really been a threat the last few years. The reason behind him going to a 360 has to be that he lost his 410 motor sponsor as he stated in his victory lane interview that he lost a sponsor and wouldnt be back at the next NSL show if he couldnt get it.
The NSL offers tow money, a $350,000 point fund and the farthest race from his house is maybe 7 hours MAX. Then you have knoxville 410 weekly show which Wayne can easily get a top 10 in points and make some money there along with picking off a weekly show here and there.
If I was a betting man I think he lost his 410 motor program thats why hes going ASCS....

This was my thought from day one on the NSL or any other series for that matter. It's still going to come down to each individual car owner and their sponsor partners being able to afford to follow the deal. The series has some well funded teams with drivers ranging from former Outlaws to muliti time past champions and even a multi time WSS champion. They have a great point fund but it's going to take a perfect season, sufficient resources and more than a little luck to be the one holding up that points check at the end of the year.
That's not a slam on the NSL, it's just the reality of the situation with every series. Some of the teams starting the season are not going to be there at the end of the year. A car owner is going to have to field an Outlaw caliber car and hold off a dozen other teams that could win this deal on any given night. Some of the middle of the pack teams will run out of funds or get tired of getting beat up every weekend and retreat back to their weekly tracks. That's racing, happens all across the country every year.

"'We lost one of our sponsor, and right now it makes more sense for me to run with ASCS. We're still going to run alot of 410cid shows when we're not running ASCS, but right now for our budget we're going to run the full ASCS National Tour," explained Johnson. From ASCS web site WWW.ASCSRACING.COM

I guess your right,4 isn't a bunch, but it will be 5 with the nationals, and along with the other 1/2 mile races they will run it will add up.Not knocking the NSL at all, think it's a good thing, but it takes motor money to be competitive, especially on the big tracks.

And to be fair, a lot of those Knoxville regulars who have signed up for the NSL dont have the experience on most of these other tracks they will visit. The guys who have done some traveling are pretty far ahead of them pulling into the gate. Wayne would admit he had some luck in winning that NSL race, I'd imagine. But Wayne is one I'd count as a guy whos done quite a bit of traveling. He is a great guy and I cant wait to watch him race, no matter the class, track or motor size.
