Ventura Raceway returns to action this Saturday April 11, at 5:30 PM, at its Ventura County Fairgrounds facility, with a very special event. That night we feature the first ARP Battle At The Beach race for VRA 360 Sprint Cars for 2015. Our program Saturday night will feature a full program of open wheel and stock car racing with VRA Sprints, Dwarf Cars, IMCA Modifieds, California Lightning Sprints, NMRA TQ Midgets and Go Karts. The first three races of the new season indicate that we are in for another great season of exciting open wheel and stock car racing. We hope that fans will enjoy the efforts of the drivers, crews and raceway who put on outstanding racing events for your enjoyment each race.
The VRA Sprints will be racing for a winners check of $1,500 Saturday as the first of four ARP Battle at the Beach races in 2015 is run. Last year's King of the Beach, Jimmy Crawford and 2015 point leader Kyle Smith lead the VRA Sprints into this week's action. Last race winner Luis Espinoza, opening night winner Troy Rutherford, Austin DeBlauw, Sheldon DeBlauw, Rick Hendrix, Tom Hendricks, Guy Woodward, George Morris and many others will all be trying to get the win in this series within a series event. These drivers will thrill you as they approach 80 MPH on our 1/5 mile clay oval competing in 10 lap heat races, semi mains when needed and a 30 lap feature.
Joshua Vogt took the 2014 Ventura Raceway IMCA Modified Championship and the win on opening night and last race on March 28. This week he goes for two in a row This class of open wheeled V 8 Stock Cars always provides exciting on track wild racing action. Other drivers expected to compete include many time champ Jack Parker, Dennis Eckert, Dave and Andrew Phipps, Andrew Greiman, Mark Davis, Austin and Aaron Rodarte and many others who race this series throughout the western United States.
VRA Dwarf Cars return to action with racing in two classes, Seniors and Pros. Point leader and opening night winner Bill Vanpraag leads the seniors into action tonight against the over 45 contingent. 2014 Senior Champion Mike Lewis, who took the win on March 28, trails Vanpraag by 5 points. Mike Neal, Dave Conley, Bob Kaufman and others will be trying to score points to make their mark. In Pros, point leader Tim Conely took the win opening night and came back to take the win at thelr last race March 28 over his brother Johnny. Other drivers who will be challenging in the Pros include Ricky Lewis, April Banuelos, the Velasquez clan led by Thomas with sons Tommy and Nick and many others. These small sedans and trucks always put on a good show for the fans.
VRA Go Karts are back to continue their new season Saturday night. Point leader and 2014 series champion Kenny Byers Jr will lead them into action. These fast, nimble racers run the big track and always put on a good show.
This weekend the California Lightning Sprints are making their first 2015 appearance at Ventura Raceway. These winged midget size cars always thrill the crowd with their fast, close racing. Past Ventura Raceway winner Doug Nunes will go up against Bobby Michnowicz and the rest of the winged warriors in competition tonight.
NMRA TQ Midgets are here for their second race at Ventura in 2015. Anthony Lipiccollo took the win on their first appearance in 2016 on March 21. West Evans, Chuck West, Bruce Hiroshima. and the rest of the NMRA regulars will be here to go for the win this week.
Pit gates open at 12 Noon, with front gates opening at 3:00 PM. Practice gets under way at 3:30 with racing at 5:30. Admission prices are $15 for adults, $11.00 for Seniors, Military and Juniors.
