Jalopy 93 is Correct Norman Martin in the Sitton # 51 on March 16th 1978 a 20 Lap Preliminary race
AMAZINGLY Enough the driver that WON THE VERY 1ST World of Outlaws Races at Devil's Bowl Speedway in Mequite, Texas, is NOWHERE TO BE FOUND On the ALL TIME WORLD OF OUTLAWS Career Win Lists
We REALLY NEED TO DOCUMENT ALL THE DRIVERS WHO WON PRELIMINARY WOO RACES TOO I THINK

From the World of outlaws history book:
"Jimmy Boyd ,in a non-wing car win's the series, inaugural event on March 18th at Devil's Bowl Speedway in Maesquite,Texas."
Have respect for history ,and don't try and re-write it.
Just tell it like it is.
Otherwise open a can of worms:
so and so was first outlaw
no he was the first
no outlaws were around before Ted ect ect... bla bla.
Jimmy is married to the widow of the late Jay Opperman, Betty. They go to Calistoga still, and Jimmy always has time to talk.

Norman won the prelim but to qualify as a WoO win it had to pay $2000 to win. The prelim didn't pay the required amount, therefore, didn't count. Kenny Woodruff was Boyd's car owner and the car was a Trostle.

Norman is a great guy and has a great company..... See him at the Nationals every year.... But it is a shame that prelim feature winners didn't get their wins on the list....

Back in those days prelim nights were not counted in the feature victoy totals. That went on for many years.
