I think Paul McMahon is a good guy, a fine race car driver. Must be if he drove for Mr. Rick Ferkel. Daryn Pittman is a good one too. He's a WoO champion.
After watching the video, wow what a great race! I loved it! Good racing! That's what you pay to watch...for sure! Thank you guys for putting on that show............
And then it occured to me....after watching this I thought, Gosh, I bet Steve or Sammy or Doug or Jan or maybe even Jac or Brad, in their prime, would have some how, some way, passed Pittman in that race to win it......I mean, it looked like Paul was faster there for awhile...and he was trying hard......
I have seen the guys I mentioned make it happen some way.....that's what set them apart,...made them legendary...wether you loved them or hated them.....Steve would have squeezed the 9 out of the way, Sammy would have probably run into him, spinning him out....Doug would have just run through the ruts and around the 9 car.....
Or, maybe or I have romanticized the past way too much!!!! Ha ha
I mean, am I crazy or on point?

I don't think you're crazy. Schatz is one of the few Outlaws who can pass cars on a consistent basis. That's part of what makes him great. Kaeding is another guy who can get around guys. Madsen can make things happen too. Some guys are great locally on their home tracks (Dobmeier, Monteith).

I never was a big Doug Wolfgang fan, but I'll be the first to admit, he had to be the smoothest ever running through the ruts.

Looked to me like Pittman just had more speed in the straights which just hurt Pauls chances of setting up a good "clean" pass in the corners. The cars are worth so much now and points are very valuable making some of the more dangerous passes not worth it for some drivers. Thats not to say other drivers still dont drive with a sort of intimidation factor. Paul had his chance to win it when he got the lead if he would have lifted so he didnt slide out high not allowing Pittman to get back by underneath him. Its possible it still wouldnt have worked but watching the race later vs making that decision in the race are two different things. Props to both on a solid run!

when the 51 made the pass he walked it up the track too far...Madsen appeared to have had the hunger but lacked the speed.
wait...is this why the CC left the fold or just coincidence?

I think back in the Old Days- Steve or Sammy would have half spun and just passed the 9 in reverse going backwards.. Wolfie would have hit the ruts driving around him and done a double forward flip just to add more flair to the show! It would have been crazy!!!!
Haud would have actually climbled the fence driving around him and done a 50/50 grind around the wooden fence, and gone onto win!!
None of them would have been wearing seatbelts either! Because they bred em tough in those days, after the race they would have brewed their own beer in the pits, with a herd of scantily clad women hanging off em. Smashed all the beer until the sun came up, and then gone onto the next track to do it all again!
Wish i could go back to 89! Id do anything to be 1 again.

Sam,
You forgot the part about them eating nails for breakfast and washing that down with vinegar!
And I wish I could go back to 1975
Ha!

Antioch was a typical Pittman win. Has a good night and starts up front. Rubber is layed down in feature and he blocks the rest of the way, doenst even attempt to pass a lapped car. Schatz or most anyone else would have raced their way through traffic.

There are so many things incorrect in the previous post. If you think that was "rubber" at Antioch then there is no hope for you. The track was so heavy that the bottom came in during the feature for the first time all night since it was so slimy prior.
The majority of Pittman's wins last year actually came from outside of the front row. He struggled mightily after winning the dash and not getting the feature win in 2014. You call it blocking, but I seen D-Pitt holding a steadily line the entire race. If you want to see blocking, go dig up some video of Ponzi-scheme #14 from those championship years.
The hard charger was Statler advancing 4 spots in the back half of the field.
You speak of Schatz (who I respect more than anyone on tour), he didn't pass one car. He hasn't gone backwards once in 12 WoO shows and it almost happened with how bad and heavy the track was. It was tear-off city.
