FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:  3-23-2015

Ventura Raceway's third auto race of the 2015 season will take place on Saturday March 28, at 5:30 PM at its Ventura County Fairgrounds facility.  This week we feature a full program of open wheel and stock car racing with VRA Sprints, Senior Sprints, Dwarf Cars, Hobby Stocks, IMCA Modifieds and Mod Lites.  The first two races of the new season indicate that we are in for another great season of exciting open wheel and stock car racing. We hope that fans will enjoy the efforts of the drivers, crews and raceway who put on outstanding racing events for your enjoyment

Kyle Smith returns to defend his 2014 season VRA Sprint Car Championship after taking the main event last weekend.  He will be challenged by all the rest of the outstanding VRA Sprint Car drivers who will be going all out to make 2015 their year to shine.  Other drivers expected to compete are Sheldon DeBlauw, Luis Espinosa, Rick Hendrix, Tom Hendricks, Guy Woodward, George Morris and many others. These drivers will thrill you as they approach 80 MPH on our 1/5 mile clay oval competing  in 10 lap heat races, semi mains when needed and a 30 lap feature.

In VRA Senior Sprints, defending champion Clif Warren will be back this weekend to go for four championships in a row after his opening night win.  He will be going against other over 45 year old drivers in this very competitive class that features the same cars as the regular VRA Sprints with age being the only difference. Other drivers expected to compete are Wally Pankratz, Mike Cook, Chris Meredith, Ed Schwarz and others.

VRA Hobby Stock Class returns this weekend for its third race of the new season.  So far Cameron Dougan has been the man to beat as he has taken wins in both previous races.  He will be going for three in a row Saturday night. The return of full size stock car racing to Ventura Raceway in the form of VRA Hobby Stocks has met with great fan support and excitement. Those of you who have been following VRA for many years may remember the VRA Street Stocks.  The new Hobby Stock Class is a throwback to these Camaro, Firebird, Monte Carlo based race cars.  It will be fun to see the growth of this series in 2015.  Point leader Cameron Dougan will lead the field into the night's racing.  He will be challenged by regulars Ernie Malone, Randall Dougan, Mike Stanford, Jesse James Verdun, David Heurung, Sam Garvin, Tom Stephens Sr., Mira Cook, and others.

Joshua Vogt took the 2014 IMCA Modified Championship and the win on opening night.  Last week he had a tough night finishing last due to on track incidents.  He will be back this week to right the ship and try to get back into the win column.  This class of open wheeled V 8 Stock Cars always provides exciting on track wild racing action.  Other drivers expected to compete include many time champ Jack Parker, Dennis Eckert, Dave and Andrew Phipps, Andrew Greiman, Mark Davis, Austin and Aaron Rodarte and many others who race this series throughout the western  United States.

VRA Dwarf Cars return to action with racing in two classes, Seniors and Pros.  Opening night winner Bill Vanpraag leads the seniors into action Saturday night against the over 45 contingent.  Mike Neal, Dave Conley, Mike Lewis, and others will be trying to score points to make their mark. In Pros, Tim Conley took the win opening night over his brother Johnny.  Other drivers who will be challenging in the Pros include Ricky Lewis, the Velasquez clan led by Thomas, with sons Tommy and Nick and many others.  These small sedans and trucks always put on a good show for the fans.

VRA Mod Lites open their season with 2014 series champion Jeffrey Fry leading the charge to see who will become the champion in 2015.

Pit gates open at 12 Noon.  Front gates open at 3:00 PM with racing getting under way with practice at 3:30 and racing at 5:30. Admission prices for this event are:  $15.00 for adults, $11.00 for seniors, military and juniors, and kids 12 and under are free.  For more information please call (805) 985-5433.

SheriBeriBeBop Nice report, hope you keep it up. BTW your husbands car looks OK, but that driving suit is dreadful. Can we take up a collection ?  BTW that Ventura fan board needs to be revised. I have tried to get on there but gave up. Too complicated.

Dave, you're delusional again.

VRA Fan board is no more complicated to use than this one. Somehow you manage to work this thing...

See you tomorrow.
