Here is a little history lesson. The 86 car that Kevin will drive is the same car that Steve Kinser was driving in '77 when Dick Gaines got hurt and Karl gave Steve the call to drive the famed 11 car. Jerry and Jeff Smith have fielded cars for many years and had many good drivers in those cars.

I cannot beleive that Kevin is crawling in a 37 year old car and expecting to be competetive?!  Was this a misprint or is he just going to pas the field in this antique?

Now you surely are just kidding but you never know about the human race today, not mhch common sense anymore. i thought about it when I posted and knew slme joker would come up with something like your response. Since the lack of common sense these days, it isn't the same car but the same owners of the 86 team. Is that better for you???? LMAO????????????

Is this the Smith Racing 86 out of Columbia, MO? I thought Kinser drove it prior to driving Karl's car, but have been told I was wrong.

Yes it is the Smith car. Read the post it says " He was driving it when Karl gave him the call to drive the famed 11 car". That's before. Sorry to put it this way but the first guy kinda rubbed me wrong because I believe he was serious.

The Smith car looks great this year.  If you get on facebook and go to scottys signs and wraps it can be seen there.

I think he was just showing a little humor with his response.  I didn't interpret the original post that way but after reading his response I thought it was very funny and brought a little humor to an otherwise bleak day here in the sprint car capital of the world.  Humor like that is a lot better than some of the nasty remarks that are usally found here any more.  Thanks.

My wife told me if I went to one more Sprint Car race
she would leave me.................I'm sure gonna miss
that ol' gal.

I did read the post. How about you rereading my post? I was agreeing with you, that I thought Steve drove it before he drove for Karl, but I have had others argue with me, and tell me it wasn't the same car. According to Redman, I guess they were actually right. Same team, not same car. Lol.

Back in 1977 there were actually 4 owners of the 86 car.  Arch Simpson was one,the founder of the WoW series. As was Jerry Smith.  Simpson told me once that they "scouted" Kinser at a track in Indiana, and Smith was the only one of the 4 who didn't want to hire him. He was out voted.  I believe Sedalia Missouri's Larry McCown was the 3rd owner, the name of the 4th escapes me.

The forth person in this deal my have been Erbie Baker, he was my uncle. He was the engine builder for this car and team. Him and Arch Simpson and someone else split out on their own and had the 98 car that Ralph Blacket and TIGER Bob Williams drove. Then I believe Erbie and Arch slpit again and formed the 89 team. Tha team ran through the '83 season and then Erbie was done in the ownership part but still built engines. Erbie worked for Jerry and Jeff Smith until his death in '98.
