Must have been a decieving camera angle.   Johnny said the winning margin was 2/10ths....how many feet is that when travelling roughly 80 mph?  

Maybe it is time to set a GoPro on a tripod at the official S/F line.  

This should be interesting. I beleive Math says your 80mph would be around 25 feet. It looked a little closer than that lol.  I was expecting Jonny to call the difference in the hundreths or even thousanths of a second not .22 the Woo site is showing. Plus the camera pans up at the end and it looks pretty dead on the start/finish line.  Looked like some great racing there.

I echo what the first two posters said.  I sat down knowing the results, and was like, "whaaat" when they crossed the line.  I had to watch it four or five times to see first, how Schatz won, and second how he won by .22 seconds. The .22 margin is what got me.  All I could come up with was that the camera angle was deceiving.  On video in looks like Stewart's car is almost half a car length ahead.  I don't know.  That was weird.

Maybe this will be the internet's new "is this dress blue and black or white and gold" thing.  Who won this race the 15 or the 2?  Haha.

pretty obvious, hell Ray Charles could have told who won that race and it wasnt Donny. Camera angle or not Donny was never ahead of Shane until they got back to the pits......

By what I see on tape, I call BULLSH*T! Stewart wins!

Yep.....  What I see by that camera angle is Stewart got royally screwed. I would love to see another angle, but this isn't a case of inches, this appears to be the case of feet. If I was a fan that attended this race and saw this I would be livid. 

Transponders don't lie. 

That one gets an asterick in the record book.

I don't think you understand 100% how a transponder works.  At their core they are a rf transceiver. If you knew anything about how antennas operate you wouldn't trust a transponder for a final finishing order.

Transponders aren't an exact technology......I know that all cars are required to mount the transponder in the same location from car to car, and withoout knowing, I have to ask if the two chassis in use here have that location in the same place relative too the leading edge of the front bumper.

Most transponders are placed in the back of the car, not the front.  At that speed it could be a difference between the front nose and the point at which the the transponders pass over the line.  I guess to be absolutely correct the transponders should be at the very front of the nose but that would eliminate quite a few transponders thoughout the night.

I wasn't there but from watching the finish many times I just don't see it as that close and Stewart wins without a doubt.

I agree with darbo42 here. I see many of the WoO team mount the transponder right above the rear rack, but that is their choice to give up 8' of racetrack, and perhaps in this case $5,000 to their competitor. We always install our transponder up front. 

That was some great racing! But there is NO way Schatz won, let alone by .22??

I think it's obvious the 2 car is for real. He's gonna get some more wins. 

I believe the WoO's still place there transponders on the front end (can't remember if LF or RF). Possible that scoring loop was put in at an angle, which is not good either, but still hard to account for .2 tenths. Great race nonetheless

Bingo. There are several instances where a transponder has reported a car ahead or behind another driver for xyz reason. It is a RF component and sometimes weird stuff happens.  Improper placement or signal defraction or reflection from a component on the car could cause something weird to happen. 

Wow doesn't there need to be some kind of a common sense factor here as well? I'm not sure exactly what the answer is but it should start with a score keeping official watching the race from the start/finish line.  Beyond that, horse racing has been doing still frames of finishes for decades of "photo finishes".  With today's technology you would think putting a still camera or video camera right at the finish line would be easy and relatively cheap.  Bad camera angle or not it appears to me there is simply no way Shatz ever had the lead, and absolutely was never ahead by anywhere near 25 feet( which is equivilent to 2 full car lengths).

When transponders were first introduced, all tracks that I know of used human scorekeepers too, I know that Knoxville still does. Are the World of Outlaws depending 100% on the transponders for accuracy?
