Brett Miller finishes 4th in final Silver Dollar Speedway standings
By Gary Thomas
Chico, CA - August 26, 2007...Despite a trying season at Silver Dollar Speedway, Chico youngster Brett Miller gutted through it and brought home a fourth place finish in the final 2007 Feather Falls Casino 410 winged sprint car point standings. The sophomore jinx seemed to play havoc with Brett and the Care Free Pools team all year, but everyone remained positive throughout it and will move on having gained a lot of added experience.
The final point race of ‘07 at Silver Dollar pretty much summed up the year. Lining up on the inside of row five in the main event, a couple cars near the front of the field got together and Brett had nowhere to go, getting into the melee suffering front end damage. The Platinum Powder Coating, Jandy Pools, Al’s Concrete No. 1x was towed off to the work area to try and get the damage fixed. After thrashing away the car was dropped off the jacks, but unfortunately the light went off on the speedway and racing got back underway before Brett could get back out.
Finishing fourth in points is an improvement over last year’s seventh place finish during his rookie season, and is remarkable to finish that high despite all the tough luck during the season. The highlight of the year came on April 6 when Brett picked up his second career 410 sprint car victory. In 17 total starts the 18 year-old brought home nine top 10 finishes. The night that hurt the most, however, was June 22 when Brett transferred through the B-main, but was forced to scratch from the main event due to engine issues. Rules stipulate that if a driver transfers he has to forfeit his points from the B-main, but even if they can’t start the main event, they are still forced to forfeit the points. This was a major hit and left Brett with 0 competitive points from the night.
Other adversity that the team fought through were constant engine troubles that plagued the 1x for much of the Summer. In fact Brett was forced to utilize a 360 power plant under the hood during three Silver Dollar Speedway point races in July. Even with all that Care Free Pools Racing was one of only two teams to compete in every Friday point race in Chico and every Golden State Challenge King of California Series event in 2007. It was truly a grind and we have to thank each and every one of our sponsors for making it possible.
With all the point racing done for the season it will give Brett and Care Free Pools Racing time to focus on the special events that take place during the later part of the year in California. The first of those events will be in a couple weeks when the World of Outlaws Sprint Series invade Silver Dollar Speedway for the 54th annual Gold Cup Race of Champions. Last year Brett was running in the five during the C-main on Saturday night when an accident took him out of contention. A good run at the Gold Cup would certainly be huge for the Brett and the whole team. It’s the toughest sprint car event in California, but should be a fun time all around as more than 90 cars are expected to take part in action.
