I hope drug testing doesn't become a new thing, I'll miss some of my favorite drivers.  Car counts would drop all over the country

I assume this statement is humor or a joke.  I HAVE FAITH THAT MOST DRIVERS DO NOT TAKE ILLEGAL DRUGS.  If you knew they tested for drugs you would have to be dumb as a rock to show up at track with drugs in system.

There's a huge difference between doing drugs on Tuesday and racing Friday....and doing drugs on Friday and racing Friday

As long as a driver isn't Under The Influence of anything while they're racing why does anybody care?  There should be a reason for a test as in, if someone suspects a driver to be on something the day of a show, not because he partied the night before a few days prior.

Are people really blind-sided to the fact that there are a lot of drugs being done in grass roots racing?)

If a guy decides to quit racing a sprint car because he can't smoke a J on Tuesday night, is that really the guy that is important to the sport in the first place?

Yeah, because that argument works in the real world.

I agree, if the guy/gal quits racing because they can't quit doing drugs, then they aren't the one that needs to be their anyhow.

I cant ant believe this is even a debate. Their absolutely should be drug testing.

The reason people care is that race car drivers are people of public influence. Like it or not they are. Also they are putting themselves and others in harms way everytime they hit the track.

When Jimmy and Timmy Crackhead show up to the race track is that who you want your kids to root for?

It seems to be most of the drivers are in favor of drug testing, the only ones that are not are the ones that have something to hide and the fans that have no dog in the fight in the first place.

Can you give a name of a driver that is opposed to drug testing in sprint car racing? Also can you give an example of why someone who does a line or shoots up with a needle or smokes a Juicy J apple wrapped blunt on Wednesday should be driving a sprint car on Friday night? Hell if you get blasted drunk on Wednesday and you are still under the influence above .00 on friday you should be out of the car too! I think a brethalizer at pit meetings would be fair.

Good examples, Shooting up herion and smoking pot are really on the same level. And crack addicts are really on the verge of becoming your kids favorite driver. When a drug test comes out that can test for marijuana use within the last 24 hrs many more people would be on board with this. I would have no problem with breathalizers at the back gate at sign in, but if that same test showed positive if you'd drank alcohol within the past 2 weeks I wouldn't.

I don't do drugs so I'll gladly take a piss test.  Doesn't bother me.

What I'm curious about is... If this is something that absolutely needs to be taking place right now, why weren't ya'll so passionate before the Ward thing happened?

Why didn't we have 900 threads about drugs five years ago on this forum and why didn't Economaki have a lengthy article in every other NSSN twenty years ago?

The sport survived all this and it'll easily survive without drug testing.  Probably less drugs in the sport now than there was ten years ago.

Also, if we start drug testing... I dont want drugs like weed and coke to be the only thing tested.  Any type of painkiller or TRT, etc the driver is taking should be banned too.  I dont want to lose to a driver whose at a medical advantage over me.  Everyone sitting in the car should be all natural.

If its too painful for you to sit in a car because you had a big wreck, too bad.  If you can't handle the 800-950hp under the hood because you aren't in good enough shape and need to TRT, too bad.

Either way, I'll gladly take a drug test because I have nothing to hide.

We are talking about drug testing. If you want to talk about marijuana testing that is a brand new subject. Do I think that they are on the same level? No.  The way Meatbag said it was it doesnt matter if people do drugs (any type) we need them on the race track.

I know what your saying about Meatbags comment, he was pretty broad in his statement but I think there was also some pretty heavy sarcasm going on too. I just think the majority of the push against drug testing is due to marijuana. I don't know many people that would get on a soapbox for crack or Meth or Cocaine

Yes it is! And simply because of how expensive the sport is, where do you think the drivers are going to come from to fill the void of drivers that hang it up? If everybody that wanted to race a sprint car could afford it they would already be racing! I agree with the original poster you will see car counts going down all over the country! There is no reason this is even an issue. Everyone goes back to walker who is just flat out and addict, and the hole ward thing come on how many times have we seen this before with a driver getting out on the track pissed at another driver, weed had nothing to do with it and if you think it did the sport dosent need you in my opinion.

Have a nice day!

I have a very difficult time believing that there would be some huge drop in car counts all over the country because of drug testing.  If a guy aleady has thousands and thousands of dollars invested into his race team, you're telling me that he is going to just quit racing because he can't smoke pot whenever he wants?  I just don't buy it.  There may be a handful of guys that decide to quit racing, but it surely wouldn't be the end of sprint car racing as we know it like some are making it out to be.

I would guess that the majority of companies in the country have random drug testing protocols in place, yet millions of people still decide to come to work.  How could that possibly be?  Because most people make the decision that working is better than doing drugs, just like most would decide that racing a sprint car is better than doing drugs.  So again, if you have a guy that quits racing a sprint car because he can't do his drug of choice, is that really the guy that's important to the sport?

Also, don't take my comments as anti-drug or pro-testing.  I say legalize it all and tax the hell out of it, just like alcohol and tobacco.  My thoughts are more to say that sprint car racing will continue to be a strong presence in dirt racing with or without drug testing.

Kinda like the broad that wants us to buy her condoms. This shouldn't be an issue either.

Hell I know what you guys can do that want this, remember claiming motors ? If you want this so bad you can wait until feature time & run up to the tower & say you are paying for Joe Shmo to have a piss test. Driver can't drive until results come back. LEAVE SHIT ALONE. This kinda shit that some people are for is whats wrong in part with this country. Always someone sticking thier nose in someone else's buisness.

Now if said person gets caught that is a different story. I'm more & more thinking that this Country is getting to Pussified.
