I think its time to have a indoor dirt midget race in the east ? Is the Harrisburg ,Pa Farm Show Building large enough or is there somewhere else it could be held ? Just wondering ? Fans in the east deserve to see more , then running on concrete.

They tried it up here at Cedar Lake Speedway. They've got a Motocross arena that they put a dirt oval in for the summer and have karts and Micro Sprint races. They tried the Badger Midgets and found out that it takes a lot more ventilation than needed for Moto Cross, Karts and Micros. The racing was pretty good but it wasn't practical to continue. They still have a big Micro special or two during the months that the oval track is setup and I guess that's pretty good.
Whoever promotes something like this has to have several things at their disposal. First they need a building with adequate seating and ventilation that has some kind of space that can be used for a pit area. They would obviously have to get a good enough deal on the rent or lease to make the weekend profitable. And finally they would need to be assured that they could attract a good field of cars. I'm not sure what the Midget racing situation is out there but the biggest challenge if for someone to want to take the risk and try to promote it. There are a lot of lost shirts laying alongside the road that used to belong to racing promoters.

If it was that easy, it would've already been done.

The one in DuQuion in December seems to be gaining some momentum.

I miss the Outlaw Karts at Red Bluff. That was some great racing during the winter when I lived in Yuba City.

A promoter better have big bucks if he wants to try that. Renting the building, building the racetrack and catch fence plus cleaning it all up when it is over. I assume you want it to be an indoor dirt track. The dust will get everywhere. I can not imagine what it is like to clean up the Expo Center after the chili bowl. And there is a time limit to do it. All of that would be very expensive. A smaller than expected crowd or a snow storm that keeps people away could make the whole deal a major money loser.
That being said, there is nothing better in January than being able to see real dirt track racing indoors. It's the only thing that gets me through winter!
If you ever get a race like that near you I hope every one supports it so it can grow to an yearly event!

People from all over just go to the Chili Bowl, but hopefully you can arrange such an event on the East Coast to keep them happy, maybe after you succeed you can try the West Coast as well
do it in the dirt

I'm still waiting to hear the details of that home built engine incentive. Maybe he's still working out the fine details and we'll see a press release soon.

a little off topic here but, in Lancaster thay have this huge sports complex called Spooky Nook, This place is huge, they are actually building a hotel inside of this place, my daughter plays field hockey there sometimes, anyway, they are in the process of building a pavement track, rumor has it, it will be a kart track, not sure if its an amusement type track or for somthing totally different like track and field, If you get a chance check this place out.

I have driven past that place countless times since they began building it. It's friggin' huge. I'm pretty sure the owner, Sam Beiler, is the son of the lady who started Auntie Anne's pretzels.

I have always thought the the IX Center next to Cleveland Hopkins Airport would be great. It use to be a tank factory in WWII I think. They have all the parking and space inside to hold a race even on a 1/3 mile.

I've spoken to friends out here in Southern Cali and we have a couple buildings big enough to hold a west coast chili bowl. They are on the old Tustin marine corps air base. They used to house the Blimps from WWII. And both are still standing. Google them they are quite a sight. They film commercials in them now.
We need more sprint car racing at our home track.

Seems Atlantic City has been doing it for many years .... well - minus the dirt. But they put on a great show nonetheless.
