I'm impressed. I have taken countless people to their first race. Paid for their ticket & food. I buy 4 extra tickets to the Knoxville Nationals so I can take friends and their kids each year. All 4 nights and they have to pay for nothing. Not even t shirts if they want some. I have paid fuel bills for drivers and sponsored drivers. I have helped crew on cars that were short handed.

My parents started taking me to jalopy races when I was 4. I am 59 now and can not remember a summer in my life that I did not go to races every Saturday night. When my local paper did not cover racing I reported for 4 tracks every week at no expense to the paper just to help out those tracks and try to get more fans.

I use all my vacation from work to go to races.

I have over 500 driver t shirts as well as many track & event shirts. I have no need for so many but buy them just to help a little. They will all go to the NSCHoF when I die. 3/4 have never been worn. The NSCHoF is in my will.

You are not the only one who has done things for racing. But I thank you for what you have done.

But you anger people when you post you know how to make racing better and the fan experiance better but never say exactly how. At best you just give general ideas without any real details. Thats why you get blasted.

Excellent oswald...I have done much of the same but I am sure not to the extent you have. Ican remember races back to 1957 when my dad was the starter and I spent my life at tracks. I worked on sprint cars, I have owned a sprint car and both of my sons are crew chief on two quality cars here in central Pa. As many others do I see you have the enjoyment of exposing someone new to the sport and as you know that is a great feeling and the passion you have for the sport is felt by them also. Thanks for all you have done for new fans and the sport we all have love for.

They would be fools not to take the money, not saying they shouldn't, merely observing what is happening, is that easy enough for ya'?

It didn't seem to be a just an observational comment, so I read it as such.  Tone can get lost when posting on an internet message board.  But, when you refer to it as "parade racing", thats negative.  It's called context.  Is that easy enough for you?

If every track had a few more 'Oswalds' the sport would be in much better shape.  A fan that gets it, I remember some engaging conversations back in the day at Knoxville.  The only scary part is that he has been on the planet a lot of years and most of the great ones have, sprint car racing is more than desperate for new blood.

PS  It doesn't help when our youngest stars leave to go parade racing either.....

Thanks Mike. Sure miss hanging out at the "fuzzy photo" booth, meeting people and listening to stories. One wall in my home is covered with your fuzzy sprint car pics. :-)

One thing I agree with after reading this crap is yes, more than a few on here make PA fans look like ass holes.

Please give me a break, there are asshole fans from every state, Pennsylvania does not have somthing in the water that changes people making a larger percentage of asshole Sprintcar fans. The difference is Pa has the posse and therefore Pa fans feel the need to defend and make excuses for the Posse when they come under fire or get whooped, I happen to be from Pa and I think the whole Pa posse thing is stupid, The Pa posse is not a team and I feel no need to defend this imaginary posse thing, but hey it sells t shirts and gives fans somthing to be passionate about, it is what it is. Look at the rediculous banter between Kyle Larson Fans and Kyle Larson haters, same thing to a lesser extent. The assholes in Pa would not be as bad if the assholes from everywhere else were not rubbing it in when they get beat or dont do well off the porch, it takes 2 to tango. I am definetly an asshole but I could care less if a Posse "member" gets beat by an invader, and if you sat near me at a race we would probably have a great time talking about Sprintcar racing.

Oh, sorry one other thought , I AM DEEPLY SORRY THAT I OFFEND OR UPSET SO MANY PEOPLE , I am a very passionate fan who cares about racing which has been such a major part of my life since I was 13 . I do many things to help , make kids , or fans happy and have spent  countless  dollars of my own money to do so at many events I 've done   at tracks  which includes sponsorships , giveaways  ,and  other things I've done to support racing and all the people surrounding it . I want no credit , i do it cause I like it doing it for the people who love the sport.

Bob Altman are you serious? I feel like we are getting pranked by you at this point. I find it hard to believe that a man of average intelligence, at least intelligent enough to use a computer, has not yet figured out how to use the space bar correctly. You also seem unable to grasp what folks on this forum have tried to tell you over and over and over.  We all understand that you beleive the present state of Sprintcar racing is not up to your standards, we all understand that you care about the fans even me, we all know that you have done countless wonderful things to help Sprintcar racing as a whole, we get it, Now what are we supposed to say when you start the next thread explaining the same things, pointing out the same issues that you always point out i.e. costs are to high, purses too low, tracks not doing enough for fans, promoteres and organizations have the audacity not to respond to your emails which in your mind means they dont care. What do you want man? Seriously, what do want from us? you get bashed over and over, we insult you, some folks try to be nice and explain it to you and you wont listen, WHAT DO YOU WANT?

Yo' Johnny, I stood next to many a NASCAR race shooting photos, I am very confident in referring to it as a parade, context or not, sorry if you're still confused......

Oswald, man we had some fun times at the booth back in the day, a reason I'll be smiling when they cover me in dirt eventually....

You didn't really have to tell me about assholes as I've known a few, but that water deal, well you might just have something there... Hey, more than a few on here think it's great sport to pick on this guy and I just thought I'd yank a chain or two. Sorry if you got tripped up on it.

No need to apolagize, I could care less, I just like to post to read my own posts and maybe just maybe some other dim wit will read it and realize how trivial the whole Pa posse vs. the rest of the world concept is, very doubtful but I can dream. Since you like to throw out the bait (pun intended BIG FISH) maybe you will be that guy. Again very doubtful given the fact that you aknowledge the" somthing in the water" idea, even if your kidding. But you go ahead and believe whatever you want and by all means, stereotype Pa fans if it improves your racing experience and gives you some type of juvenile pleasure.

I don't recall saying anything derogatory about you in particular or the PA racing community as a whole, but yes, you took the bait hook line and sinker and the fact you say you could care less but keep on ranting is telling. That wasn't a apology as I have no reason to, that was a acknowledgment that with your rant about my post you fit the profile people have about some in PA. Deal is my family left PA in the late 1700's and I'm damn glad they did! Hell I'm even glad they left Indiana shortly after I was born to another hot bed of racing, Torrance Ca. As a adult I've lived in In S Cali, AZ, NM, Org and Washington and you can say whatever you want about anyone in any of those states, but I'd much rather you direct your insecurities at me. Now as far as my juvenile pleasure's are concerned, that's none of your damn business.

Silly Season in Full Swing!

Indeed!  I just got bored with those guy's picking on winning-drive as if it was a sport, so I thought I'd spin whoever stepped up a few times around and see if they could hang. "Big Puss" ha, it must be a regional thing.

I don't necessarily think anyone is picking on him for sport. He's the one who talks like he has the ultimate plan to make sprint car racing better for everyone from the teams to the birds who built a nest on the front stretch wall at Port Royal but won't provide a single detail about any of it. When you do that, people are going to call your bluff so I wouldn't exactly say people are picking on him. They're just giving the type of response that stupid, bullshit comments usually receive. And I'm still waiting to hear all about that home built engine incentive program he vaguely mentioned........

if gas prices stay where they are, this year could see a boost in attendance...particularly for fans who drive an hour or more to the races.

look around you, racing attendance has become more and more GENERATIONAL in the last decade...as older fans stop going, younger fans are NOT there to fill the seats.

perhaps winning drive should be posting to a drifting message board...and forget about these pipe dreams of "build your own 410 engine".

Excellent points!

The PROMOTERS need to find a way to attract a younger crowd. Without a constant influx of new fans, the sport will die.

Controlling costs could be achieved by 2 simple changes IMO.

1. reduce the maximum width and height of rear tires.

2. Decrease the wing size by 10-15%.

Simple to enforce is the key.

These changes would take away some of the HP advantage and put the car more in the hands of the driver.

Excellent  Points made here ,the car needs to put back more in the drivers hands . I agree with these ideas  or points but the WoO DRIVERS I BELIEVE DON'T WANT IT , yes cost factors come into play ,but I suggest to slowly phase it in . The above changes would loosen up the cars , take away some down force and maybe create less strain on the motors ,is what I've been told . The speed and HP are  the big draws to WoO racing , as some fans think its great . Right now I see all non-wing racing as more exciting then winged racing but I  like both and have nothing but respect for all drivers no matter what they drive. Unfortunately, they don't want to enforce or make changes ,because the crowds are to good to mess with ,as this is  a good product in there minds.  Ted Johnson wanted large wings to act as sponsorship business traveling billboards , so I guess he's to blame for there size and his vision to balance racing among teams . To answer my critics this man states part of what I would like to see happen ,but it won't happen until crowds, car counts,we lose more owners and trend  continues to out price most teams . This is what would make more positive changes if such a decline happens or continues .These are not new ideas but solid ones to make better racing and just maybe save money after putting into action.

Methinks people take this place WAY TOO SERIOUSLY and I've been here since the beginning, survived the wars and continue to laugh at many of the thoughts and opinions as I am sure many others do.  Aaron Rodgers said it best, R  E  L  A  X.....

Wisdom... Great post Mike.. The older people get the more they come to terms with the need to enjoy it as much as possible.

People should have different opinions.. And people should respect them,  not try to make that person conform.

This is a message board.. If someone posts something you don't like,  get over yourself...  (insert another great Eagles tune....with lyrics that apply.. Get over it.. )

Yo' Cobra, too tired to fight anymore, fought the good fight, won some, lost some but showed up for all of 'em.  I miss the 'good ol' days' but who doesn't.  Would simply like to make one last trip shake a few paws, have an adult beverage and laugh about the last 20 years and of course swap some great lies about the sport that brought us all together.  All the best, mate, to quote a song I ended my blurbs with for years, Take It Easy....
